Default First time to Europe...

I will arrive in Helsinki and have a choice of side trip selecting either
London, Barcelona or Madrid. What would be highly recommendable? Would
prefer city from where I may be able to take further cheap flights like on
EasyJet.

Max time to be spent is 3 days...interests are just to see city, late night
shopping, nightlife.

Well I used to work in London, so I would recommend Barcelona.

All 3 cities seem to be great to visit (they are on my list to go to)

But the only cheap flight that i found from Helsinki is with Flyme
(www.flyme.com) and it go's to Stockholm (sweden) but from there there are
lot's of options to take cheap flights.

If you want some more info about cheap flights to and from the airports you
named (or stockholm) then you can check it at my site.

Have a great trip,

They're all great cities to visit, but if you're into nightlife, you have to
go to Spain. Spain rocks all night, while London is pretty much dead by
midnight except for some dance clubs.

In 3 days you will have little time for any further trips, especially by air
(low cost airlines tend to use lesser-used airports, so allow at least an
hour to get to the airport, two hours to check in, ... takes half a day for
a one hour flight, and that's if you fly on time).

Barcelona probably wins on 24-hour nightlife, London for international class
shopping and more than enough to keep you occupied for 3 days without ever
going into a nightclub. But miserable licensing hours.

London for further cheap flights, but for 3 days, why worry? You
could combine London and Paris with Eurostar I suppose.
If want it lively I would choose Madrid, if youre more into
looking at history, maybe London.

I think it ist just a phantastic place.

However, don't expect late night shopping.

If you'll stay in Helsinki and like nightlife you should definitely try this
one :-)

And if I'd have to choose between London, Barcelona and Madrid, I'd go to
Barcelona. No question about that.

Well, there are as many opinions as posters! I appreciate receiving all. I
reckon it will be HEL to BCN this time. Maybe London on a future trip with
more time on hand to see a bit more of England.

None of the low costs require 2 hour checkins most of them don't open
their check-in desks 2 hours before the flight. I got off a San
Fransisco Flight 3 hours before EasyJet left, and I had to wait 1 1/2
hours before they opened the check-in. Not much fun in the awful
landside part of Gatwick.

All though they don't need it, some do specify it.

London or Barcelona. Both of them for "sights", London for shopping,
Barcelona for nightlife.

Neither greatly resembles Australia so both will present an interestingly
different experience - having said that, Barcelona is probably more
different. On the other hand, they speak English in London. On the other
hand, it's full of Aussies. ;)

Of the 3, I think Barcelona is easiest to see in 3 days, in that you
can really see a large part of the city and still take in some of the
top sights in a 3 day window. Barcelona also has an active nightlife.
It's not as much the insomniac's haven that Madrid is, but there's
still plenty to do. Shopping is good in all 3 cities (probably best
in London), but prices for most goods will be cheaper (most of the
year) in Barcelona. I don't know about late-night shopping - I don't
remember any of the 3 having too many stores that stayed open late at
night.

Honestly, all 3 are a lot of fun and can be enjoyed to some extent in
3 days, but I think Barcelona will combine all of your interests the
best and is also more desirable than Madrid or London from a budget
traveler's perspective.
