Default First time but Travel a bit different to Europe!

How do you feel about this Primary plan I have in my mind for
Traveling Europe:

Flight from Toronto, Canada to Paris

Stay in Hi-Hostel for a week and Looking for a monthly place to rent

Rent a place ( very small, furnished, suburb is OK near train
though) month by month for maximum $1000US monthly and settle

Start feeling the City, Feeling living the Paris local people
lifestyle, Seeing Major attraction, Seeing best secrets, Going around
and shopping, Gym like everyday Parisian life.

Work my way to other Cities and Countries, Main one want to see are
Nice, Rome, Milan, and London. Think of Rent a Car or find cheap local
flight to do that. Stay in Hostel in other cities.

Travel a little indifferent, take best possible photos, meet local,
travel savvy

My main interest: Main Attraction, Non-Tourist best secrets area,
Non-Tourist shopping, One day trip Hikinng, Nighlife experience, Find
lots of frineds

What do you think about this plan? Please comment, Add and Modify

Thanks a lot

A reply from an old-timer. A fine plan, but how is it different from
what many of us were doing back in the 1950's and 60's?

You say nothing about your total expenditures. Is that $1000 a month
for housing?

Your plan has you going to the big cities. Wonderful, but expensive.

And your time limits?

And don't look for "Non-tourist" "anythings" on this site or in any
guide books. Ferret those out just by doing your own snooping once
there.

And you call this your Primary Plan. What is your secondary?

You may have difficulty renting a decent place for that amount. And
that's not even counting other living costs - what will you do for
income, or do you plan on living off savings?

Do you plan to work? Can you get a work visa?

Don't rent a car if you're just going to major cities. Traffic and
parking are a real hassle in most places, and in some cities it can be
tough to find your way around when you don't know the roads and
landmarks. Cheap flights or trains are your best bet - or buses if
you are on a really low budget.

In general, it is difficult to get work visas in the EU without an
employer sponsoring you. Many EU nations have high unemployment, and
strictly restrict work visas for non-EU nationals unless you have a
needed skill (e.g. computer programmers). If you have enough Irish or
Italian ancestry you might be able to get dual citizenship with one of
those countries, which would allow you to work in France. You can try
to work without a visa (e.g. bar work, restaurant work, teaching
English, English-language editing), but you are not likely to make
much money that way and even those jobs could be hard to find if
you're just there for 3-4 months and don't speak much French.

Provence is the most beautiful rural part of France.

France isn't really the place for great beaches, and keep in mind that
the Mediterranean only really has beach weather for a few months a
year. The French Riviera is mostly very expensive, but has topless
beaches and world-class restaurants.

For hiking you have the Alps and Pyrenees.
