Air France are about to offer a second seat to fat passengers at 30%
discount.

I took an SFO to CDG flight on United about a year ago and this elderly
couple who was just ahead of me on the line for boarding, presented 3
tickets to the ticket checker who asked where the 3rd passenger was. The guy
responded that they usually like to get 3 seats in a row with the middle
seat vacant on these long trips.Once we got seated, I talked to the couple
and they both said that they had experienced several flights where "huge"
passengers just made the flight so uncomfortable for them that they finally
decided to buy 3 economy seats everytime they fly long distance. It's kinda
like a compromise to flying business which is so much more expensive than
just getting 3 economy seats for both of them. Anyway, it's about time these
big passengers pay for 2 seats and not have to inconvenience others.

You are lucky that when you went to school they didn't charge you more because
you were so stupid it took the teacher twice as much effort to get anything
through your thick skull.

Oh come on you people - it's not the people getting fatter, it's the
airlines making the seats smaller - if we were meant to be sat like cooped
up battery hens, then we'd have been born with wings and beaks.

Seat pitch has declined, not seat width. And the fact remains, the bulk of
passengers (pun intended) can fit in their seats without intruding into the
seat space of other passengers. If you know you can't fit one seat, then
buy two. No one has the right to demand that other passengers share their
seats with them.

In that case you would be another candidate stupidity tax I was referring to.

I'm with you. I'm thin. Really quite thin (5'7", 116 lb.). I have noticed
that the thinner you are, the more seat those with girth want you to share.
I like the idea of getting all of the seat I paid for.

It's not just the seat part itself; there's no room for arms either. We
won't mention legs.

Or shoulders! Mine are not particularly wide for a woman,
and it takes me a good day to recover - a "well built" man
must suffer agonies of cramp after scrunching his shoulders
inward for the length of an intercontinental flight!

I am a big guy, not fat, but at 6'4" I always hurt after a long plane trip.
Knees hit the seat in front, hip bones hit the side of the seat if they are
fixed and can not raise the arm. Can not sleep unless total exhaustion sets
in. As my head misses the back of the seat. I used to travel lots of miles
on business, and the plane seats have definately got more painful. Mostly
the pitch on the seats. Last trip on Continental, wife and I had a great
laugh at the exercises they recommended to do to relieve stress. As if you
could get enough room in coach to do 90% of the movements.
