Eurovision

Well, the Horne-Aguilar household has a tie, and we've ripped out
individual flowers from the bouquet to give to Turkey, Sweden,
Lithuania, Latvia and Bosnia. My other half added Croatia, but I'm
protesting. Interesting to see what happens with the voting. France wins
tonight for most detuned singing- Israel second.

The Small-Brouwer household is voting for Chermany, Finnland, and
Schweden. Except we, which is to say I, actually texted for Finnland
only in practice. What is the deal with the Lithuania number? It is
said that it is fancied, but it certainly isn't by me.

France was astonishingly randomly intonated, although she had a nice
enough voice otherwise; Makedonia were fairly approximate too.

I lost the Cherman stream halfway, to my intense irritation, and I've
been trying to figure out whether Tezza is worth the excruciation
(over the Tezza-lite loser on the radio) for the benefit of the
pictures.

I'll be damn glad to be watching it in Abroadia next year, though -
Tezza is an intensely unamusing dickhead on these occasions and his
delusion that it is really his show is infuriating.

Germany was pretty good too. Finland, I really don't care for much, and
nothing to do with the masks, though I suspect it will influence the
vote.

It's cheeky, and well done IMO. I also loved the Latvian number, but I
doubt anyone else will!

Most of the time- he disappeared during Dr Who though...

Oh, I still like him. I'm cracking up everytime 'amazing' comes up. His
traditional loyalty towards the UK entry (with the obligatory glance
towards Ireland) gets a bit tired.

They're doing very well - I'd've ranked it sight unseen, personally.
The new improved speedscoring is a win, though, isn't it?

I was impressed that they attempted something like that live, for
sure, but I can't claim to have liked it very much.

I found it probably the most interesting of the night, but it looks like
only a few neighbours will throw them a couple of points...

Clearly, I want to be listening to that guy from NL doing the voiceover
all evening. He stole Terry's thunder certainly- "you look like Will and
Grace!"

The Dutch gave the Big Dooz to Turkei and the Malta gave 'em to the
Switzyland, and Tezza ("bless" him) is still remarking on the
"neighbours" thing at every semblance of an opportunity. He's a twat,
is what he is.

Is he going to pioneer a theory that Finnlandland has overwhelmingly
more geographical neighbours this year than in previous outings?
Enquiring minds are unlikely to need to know, for sure.

Helsingrad next year, the way it's looking, and the Balkostomp
monopoly crumbles - crumbles! - before the mighty might of Rawk!

(Tezza is wondering why all 34(?) countries are entitled to vote.
This is because he is stupid: it is so that countries that fell at the
penultimate hurdle do not feel enclined to schedule a repeat of the
Sound of Music in a disenfranchise huff. Did I mention I wasn't a
fan?)

Tezza then said he'd be "surprised" if France didn't give us some
points, but he neglected to have a comment when they gave us a duck's
egg.

I think the neighbours things is undeniable (it's certainly been
'studied' by people with more of an interest than I) but it doesn't make
for winners, as tonight easily shows. "Bless" Monaco for giving Finland
the mark they did though.

It's unsurprising and prolly largely unsinister, though - I knew about
the Finnish entry yonks and yonks ago from the Zwedish press. And
rumour has it that the various ex-Yugoslavian entrants often have
brand name recognition in neighbouring countries. If that's
"political" it's with the smallest of possible 'p's.

(The study recently posted here was by a chemist and displayed all the
sociological subtlety you would expect from a chemist at a second-rate
British university.)

I'd give cold hard cash for tomorrows Hufvudstadsbladet, if any of our
many Finnish readers is interested. EUR 5 + postage to the UK, if
Lordi are on the front page (where they surely belong).

It's not just the publicity involved- it's not that surprising that
countries close together will sometimes have similar tastes.
