not that it matters.

Clearly you believe the post. I would give it a 0.99 probability of
being genuine and trustworthy. That leaves a 0.01 doubt.
I went as far as clicking on the url, and was told to enable
Javascript[1]. Because my trust was only at the 0.99 level, I decided
that was enough.
Tight-assed, perhaps, but my system remains virus- and worm-free.
[1] Even my spell checker won't allow "Javascript"!

I went as far as emailing the Strathclyde Uni admins to see if they knew
the poster. They did - it is somebody from there. But as far as they're
concerned, if the poster wants to conceal their identity by employing
third-party providers, it's their own affair.
We appear to be dealing with somebody who is basically honest but very,
very stupid.

The OP isn't the one wasting their time calling up a Uni to, uh, verify
the identity of a Usenet poster. (The fact they 'confirmed' the identity
to you is a little troubling.)
The OP posted a very uninteresting survey, which I'd have thought most
people would have just ignored. I don't see the point about the
worryfest over javascript and ascertaining the identity of the OP...

We need something to worry about. It diverts us from creating
mischief.
You seem worried about how worried other people are.

I volunteer for the job, at least for my laptop. ;-)
iLife '05 should be stable now and the enhancements to 'Garageband' are
significant, and for me, iPhoto now supports RAW for my digital camera.
As for 'Tiger', 'Dashboard' looks way cool and a real time-saver.
Jobs talks and shows this and more in this weeks Keynote Address at

iLife '05 should be stable now and the enhancements to 'Garageband' are
significant, and for me, iPhoto now supports RAW for my digital camera.
As for 'Tiger', 'Dashboard' looks way cool and a real time-saver.
Jobs talks and shows this and more in this weeks Keynote Address at
Macworld... it can be found here:

Not knowing what contributions you have made to the world, nor how one
judges one person's contribution for that matter, I wouldn't make such a
claim.
The problem with questionnaires is that they only produce a representative
sample of the views of people who complete questionnaires. For the data to
be meaningful, it needs to be related to the views of the population as a
whole. That usually requires a properly designed opinion poll, the cost of
which is often why people send out questionnaires instead.
I simply get sent too many questionnaires to want to spend 'only' the 20 or
30 minutes of my time most say they will take to complete and none of the
senders would, I am sure, be willing to pay a commercial rate for my time if
I did.
