Default effect of euro in tenerife

Hi all.

Does anyone have any experience of the effect the euro has had on prices in
Tenerife? I'm going there in February and haven't been before, so I don't
know what the prices were like before the introduction of the euro.

However, I have a friend that has just come back from Majorca who said the
prices there are astronomical, eg. equivalent of £9 for 3 bananas!

I heard that Tenerife wasn't exactly cheap before, but now is it really
ridiculous?

Thanks for any views.

Neither do I, but I'd have though it would have made them more
'reasonable'. Given that many visitors are Germans they will now be
spending their own currency and will no longer be caught by
missunderstanding the money

If this is what bananas cost then this is what they cost. I doubt that
the 'euro' is responsible for the price

I wonder if the £9 bananas were from some grossly overpriced shop within a
self-catering development, or a similar situation where there is a
near-captive market.

Sixt nine pence a kilo in the Co-op in Edinburgh today and they had to bring
them all the way from Costa Rica.

Even more than Harvey Nicks in Ediburgh charge, it cannot be right.

Actress Joan Collins wrote an article for the Daily Mail last week against
the Euro. Three of her points on pricing were that the running costs of her
home in France have gone up 30% since the "Ooorgheau" was introduced. A pair
of moccasins in her local market in Place De Lices, St Tropez which
previously cost the equivalent of £25 now cost over £35. but what really
incensed her was being charged eight Euros (about £6) for six lemons.

sounds like balls. Only problem I noticed in Tenerife is silly
prices like E 2.79 where they did an exact conversion.
