We fly into Dublin and will stay at B & B ( Cedar Lodge) in
Ballsbridge. We will be renting a car but we don't want to drive in
Dublin especially not the first day we arrive from overnight flight
probably with little sleep. I understand there is a bus we can get at
the airport directly to Bewley's and can walk to B & B from there. We
can ride public bus into city centre etc. Hopefully weekends have
abundant service?
B & B does have carpark so we could park a car if we had rental but I
think we'd rather pick up on departure either at Airport ( other pick
up could be Dun Laoghaire) to head north.
Besides in to city center anything to take note of in Ballsbridge?
Any good restaurants or Pubs?
Advice about transportation??
Thanks

It's been a long long time since I have been in Dublin. If I recall
correctly, Bewley's Hotel used to be the Masonic Girls Boarding
School right by the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) showground. The
original building is a lovely red brick edifice with lots of charm.
The area is a nice area so I would imagine Cedar Lodge will be well
placed.
When I lived in Dublin, the name Bewleys meant only one thing -
Bewleys cafe in Grafton Street in the Centre of Dublin. It was a
wonderful place and you caught the smell of the roasting coffee beans
as you approached. It always felt like those cartoon situations
where the characters follow a trail of scent to the "source".
Bewleys coffee and sticky buns were to die for.
The number 6, and 8 Buses go through Ballsbridge to Dun Laoghaire and
beyond and are reasonably frequent. Probably others do too. You also
have the Dart (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) train station nearby at
Sandymount.
Ballsbridge was (is?) a predominately residential area and apart from
the RDS, where there might be events during your stay, I don't
recall anything of outstanding tourist interest. It probably doesn't
matter as you are quite close to the city centre (relatively speaking
in a large city).
You should not have any problems in finding good food or pubs in
Dublin. There are probably lots in the Ballsbridge area.
Enjoy your stay.

I'd recommend the Dart personally. And overshoot Dun Laoghaire (you can
catch it on the way back) to see Dalkey, Killiney Beach, the bay and Bray.
