Which German politician was it who joked about making Mallorca
part of Germany? I cant remember but I'm sure all the expat
Germans would love to see the Union Flag hoisted.

Fair point. There is British haute cuisine: microwave meals from
Mark's and Spencer's.

Ah, but most of us have woken up to the idea that good food does
not start and end in La belle France!

Hmmmmm. Is there a "crown of spain" anymore? Furthermore, if the
British Crown ever "goes away" do ya suppose that means they can't
transfer it to the State of England (or some such designation) without
first offering it to the "Crown of Spain"?

By whom? Her Majesty is duty bound to honor the terms of the treaty.
Now, what assests does Her Majesty still control that she could
use to enforce said agreement? The Parliment may be restricted from
enforcing such a clause. For that matter, the crown may have entered
into conflicting treaties (depending upon whom the various EU
treaties are with).

There certainly is. Speaking as a republican, I have to give credit where
credit's due - if Spain became a republic tomorrow, it would be an entirely
rational act to vote in King Juan Carlos as president. He is a man of
considerable courage who, when Francoists attempted to stage a coup in the
early years of his reign, immediately appeared on television in uniform and
ordered the army to remain loyal to the elected government.

No! This filth conflicts with modern British and Spanish law.

King Carlos probably thinks so as do the Spanis parliament.

There's plenty of precedent for replacing republic of 'x'
in place of crown of 'x'

No sir she isnt. English common law has priority, the last Monarch to think
otherwise was James II, he was lucky to escape with his head on
his shoulders.

    > Now, what assests does Her Majesty still control that she could

Nary a one.

Even without such that clause was unenforceable (and unenforced)
from the moment of its signature.

Juan Carlos.

Should we become a republic I assume some act would transfer the
crown to the state. You could then spent a hundred years deciding
if that meant Gibraltar should be offered to Spain.

...having rung up the generals to remind them where their loyalty
lay.
Probably one of the most popular men in Spain.
At that time the leader of the communist party said "we are all
monarchists now"

Swapping Prince Charles for Gibraltar seems a good deal :-)

Again, if the prices are unchanged (and in euro), why should the Germans
give a toss about which flag is flying over Mallorca?

Why indeed? It wouldn't be euros of course, would it.

Well, bars and shops would keep accepting euros, I think.
As long as they could pay with euros, the Germans wouldn't give a toss
about the official currency either.

Speeding tickets would be in pounds, probably. :-)
