Wagner's Das Ring predates all of them.

Zanzibar, actually.
Then we borrowed it back again, finally getting bored with it in 1952.
I have a good collection of Queen Victoria stamps from when Heligoland was
British.

It used to belong to Denmark for many centuries, until it was conquered by
the British in the Napoleonic wars. The native population is Frisian.
Frisians are native to the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, so either of
these countries could claim it based on that fact. But culturally it has
been leaning towards Germany since the 19th century even while under
British occupation. The German national anthem was written there during
that period.

You don't expect us to live on fish and chips and shepherds pie
do you? Modern British cooking is full of influences from
everywhere. But its not microwaved from Sainsburys, although
there is not shortage of people who do that.

The former I don't know or don't remember, the latter i've eaten
when my calorie requirements were higher, although I rarely
bother with a dessert nowadays.

I've only been to Gibraltar once, I'm pretty sure it was an
island in the same was the Rhineland is and I cant say I liked it
much anyway. Couldn't wait to get into Spain.
