Are you aware that "most" means "above 50%"? If more than 50% would actually be
homeless a month (or a week) after losing their jobs, you would see a LOT more
homeless people than is actually the case. How many jobs have been lost in the
US in the last couple years? Take 50% of that...
Most homeless people are either drunks, junkies, mentally ill or all three.

but his statement is solidly based on the evidence -- few homeless are
not seriously incapitated people -- those who aren't tend to pass
through that state rather quickly and find something
this is not to deny that many people have serious housing problems given
the economy and the state of housing availability in the low price range
but the homeless are overwhelmingly alcoholics, mentally ill, drug users
or combinations thereof -- the biggest boost to homelessness in the US
came from a combination of denying mental health care and the demolition
of single room occupancy housing

A lot of people can't afford to put money into savings, nor do
they make enough, period. These people are literaly living paycheck
to paycheck.

It seems primitive <18th century additudes tward the mentaly ill
still prevails. :\ Unlike the first two, people don't have control over
whether they are mentally ill of not. Depending on the severity, they
could get some control over it through thearapy , and medication but
some are just unable to care for themselves. Unfortunately, most of the
mental institutions (in-patient) were closed in the 60's in a sick attempt
to save money, and they were handed to the "community"(ha!) to take care of
them. Well, the "community" fell real short in taking care of these
people (in other words, most people didn't give a shit about them), and
that's why we see so many mentaly ill homeless people on the streets today.
A lot of the drunk people and drug users on the street do what they are doing
because they are trying to escape the depression and stress caused by their
situation. Unfortunately, these people aren't aware of free mental health
clinics, or other social services that could help them, or are just to far
gone to "comprehend" seeking out said services.

After spending millions this is the conclusion that the NYC, FED and NYC
BID came to. The other one was that there were far, far less homeless
then originally thought.

Many believe that it was Reagan that closed the doors to mental health
institutions. In fact, he was ordered to release people in care unless
they voluntarily committed themselves. This was the mandate of the
Federal Courts in a suit brought by the ACLU and funded by the
Tupperware founders.
