I guess terrorism fears are making them work overtime. That's the start date, which will slip by five years, end date for the introduction was 2032, by which time the EU will have fallen apart, oil will have run out and we won't need driving licences. -- Martin |

Re: Don't hold your breath
Thanks for posting this link Martin.
I have a Dutch, a German, and a Michigan USA driver's license. My Michigan DL has been a credit card style with photo for years. The back side has a magnetic strip and a bar code, plus medical alert and organ donor data in case I end up as a slab of meat on the highway. I had forgotten how awkward the Dutch and German DLs were in comparison to ours in the USA. It's interesting that there will be a single EU license. In the USA every state issues it's own DLs. When you move to another state you must change your driver''s license and your auto registration. What year will the brain-dead idiots in The Hague town hall learn about it? They still don't know the procedure for getting a *Dutch* licence! B; |

Take Jeremy for example. If I'm still alive to apply for it in 2032 I doubt if I'll be alive when the Cloggies actually get round to sending me one. For now I'm clinging to my credit card size UK licence. Note to John: even NL now has "credit card" style licences. B; |

I had a new license in 2000 and it is the cheap pink paper version that falls apart, however my Dutch boat license is credit card sized and type. AFAIR the boat licenses, which you have to carry on you when in charge of a fast boat, jetski or very large boat, turned into a soggy mess too often. -- Martin |

Dare I try to exchange my current one? I think I mentioned the Dutch boat license, that had to be renewed at least a month before I was 65? I renewed a paper one 5 weeks before I was 65 and received a new credit card sized one that expired 3 weeks after I received it. I wasn't at all surprised. Boat licenses have to be renewed every two years when you are an OAP but not car licenses. It's funny old cloggy world. -- Martin |
