Default Directions to Siena from Rome

Could someone tell me what is the best way to get to Siena from Rome. I would
like to take the back roads but I really don't have the time that day. Will I
be missing alot? If I take the highway (I assume A1), where do I get off?
Thanks
Bob

Then I'm going to San Gimignano. Best way there also?

From Siena to Rome you have to take before E78 towards Arezzo - Perugia -
Grosseto for 1.2 mi then turn right onto SS (Strada Statale) 73 for 2.5 mi.
Close to Colonna del Grillo continue along SS326 for 13 mi. Close to
Bettolle turn right onto A1 (Autostrada del Sole). Head towards Roma Ovest
direction Grande Raccordo Anulare for 0.6 mi then head towards Uscita (Exit)
8 Roma Centro, Settebagni, Monterotondo Scalo, then go towards Via del Foro
Italico for 1.8 mi. At Roma continue along for 2.5 mi and you will reach
Roma Centre.

On the other hand, if you want to get from Rome to Siena -
www.viamichelin.com says take the A1 to Bettolle, then the SS326 and
SS73. BTW they have roadwork warnings for these last two roads.

Default Re: Directions to Poggibonsi to San Gimignano

Last year, due to an accident, we were diverted to the back way to San
Gimignano. This was a beautiful drive in itself, giving spectacular views
of the countryside and San Gimignano, passing vineyards etc. Normally,
after Poggibonsi (assuming you came by the autostrada from Sienna as we
did), you take the SP1 through the valley south of San Gimignano. Instead,
turn on to the SP95 via Montefalconi and you follow the top of the ridges to
the SP127 and then right up to San Gim. Drive up to the town and circle the
walls until you end up at the parking lot just outside the gate.
