Default crazy but...Britain in November.

This might or might not be posted in the correct NG. Sorry if it is not, but could
still do with the help. This might sound a tad strange, but we have got a Britrail
pass (8 days in 2 months) that allows travel around England, Scotland & Wales. We
will be doing this in the month of November (significant discount to get it off peak)
as part of a larger trip. My question is, anywhere particularly interesting to go in
the U.K. during this time of year? all help is very much appreciated. thanks MrB.

It can be pretty blustery, not to mention DARK in the U.K. in winter (it's pretty far
north--not that many hours of sunlight--frequent clouds!)--if it were me I would
forget about nature and landscapes and concentrate on cities and towns and places to
visit to get out of the chill (London, Edinburgh, York, Bath, Glasgow, etc.).

Won't the theater and concert seasons be at their height?

Bring rain gear and plan on indoor activities. November is one of our wettest months.

Get yourself up to the Lake District ( http://www.cumbria.uk.com )

Peace and tranquillity at that time of year, good value because it's off peak, and as
ever wonderful views...

And get very, very cold & wet! In November you need the indoor stuff -
essentially, London.

All the above is true, of course, but if you're going to be traveling from place to
place by train, you might as well try to do it via especially scenic routes. There's
a wonderful book, See Britain by Train, by Paul Atterbury. It was last published in
the early '90s, and is now out of print, but used copies are available on amazon.com.
Even though some of the information is out of date, the detailed information about
places along the routes described and the beautiful photos are worthwhile. It's too
bad it hasn't been updated. GG

Totally admitted as far as being wet & cold is concerned!

Now, give me a nice dry hot desert and I'm off!

(Don't know why I still live in this bloody country!).

A personal favorite, bound to generate jeers, but if you're a true fan of
camp...Blackpool. I believe the infamous illuminations shall be going on during
the month.

Of course, hopefully you'll find time for London, Edinburough, Canterbury and York as
well. But after many days of culture, can't beat Blackpool.

A few years ago, same trip, same time of year. Should be fun.

And what do you know about what the weather will be like in the Lake District *next*
November? I live very close to it and it can be very pleasant at that time of year.
And it can pour down in London even in June: I know, I got soaked to the skin there
at least three times out of my dozen or so trips to London.

Hi All, OP here, thanks for the info, and please keep it coming. To clear a few
things up. We are spending time in London, but are also going to travel for a month
in the U.K. in England, Wales, Scotland. (eight destinations within November) I know
many of you are telling me it is cold, wet, and dark. I know this, but the oiption of
not travelling during this month...is not an option. That is why i am asking for all
your wonderful ideas for destinations during this time of year (other than the
obvious capital cities) many thanks. Mr B.
p.s. what are the ".the infamous illuminations" at Blackpool during November?

Come now, there are places north of Watford, so I've been told.
