couchette 1st vs 2nd class. . .
what are the differences. I've always gone 2nd class and it has been fine
but 1) I'm with someone who has never travelled before and 2) it is August which I'm sure will be an insane month. Are there less people or better facilities? thanks enzosf |

In some countries like Germany you may travel in 4 berth compartments with a 2cl ticket at a surcharge. |

Last August I bought a 2nd class couchette ticket from Milan to Paris from the sncf website, and they offered me an upgrade to 1st class for just 10 euros more, which I took. The only difference I noticed was that there were 4 bunks instead of 6. That was certainly worth 10 euros. -- Barbara Vaughan My email address is my first initial followed by my surname at libero dot it I answer travel questions only in the newsgroup |

Hi,
I've done both... 2nd class chouchettes are 6 bunks per compartment... 1st class is 4 per compartment. sometimes you get the same cars... you just have 2 fewer bunks open. one trip we got a 3 bunk sleeper (florence to paris). on the amsterdam-paris train I have been the only person in the only first class car (half a car was first class).
