hi all,
thanks for the answers a few weeks ago concerning cote basque beaches.
i have another one (well, a few):
we are considering a week at hendaye or ciboure, after a week in the
bearnaise pyrenees. our other choice would be the cote vermeille...
either collioure or argeles-sur-mer.
this will be our only vacation time, so i want to be as careful as
possible to ensure an enjoyable beach week for the family (kids are 12
and 15).
1) in general, is the sunshne as reliable in the cote basque as it is in
the cote vermeille?
2) is the average water temperature appreciably colder at hendaye than
at collioure, for example?
i would really like to visit the pays basque, since we have been already
to the mediterranean coast (collioure), and i am learning euskara, and
we'll already be nearby (eaux-bonnes) the week before, but.... i also
have to weigh these against the possibility of a rained-out beach week,
or water temperatures too cold for swimming.
thanks in advance for your time and advice. in the US, we only get two
weeks of vacation each year, so i want to make the beach portion of this
trip a good one for the wife and kids.

Not as reliable as in the mediteranean, but generally very sunny in
summer, but more temperate. Less differences between night and days.
Climate statistics for Biarritz see here.

Atlantic ocean is cooler than the Mediteranean sea, although in the
Mediteranean strong winds sometimes pull up the deep cold waters.
Water will be warmer in shallower beaches like Saint Jean de Luz.
Hendaye is renowned for it strong waves (surf).
Your kids will be able to swim in mild water and meet friends in a
residence with a swimming pool.

Another web site where you will easily find offers for vacations in France
http://vacances.franceloisirs.com/fl...eil?PROV=MENFL But they
advertise now for the winter season. For summer vacations wait 2 or 3
months.

I think more people speak French than Euskera, but have fun. If you
find yourself in Hendaye around mid day try the Marco Polo restaurant,
it is right on the beach. There is a break water at St Jean-de-Luz so
there won't be much surf if any at all.

To hear a lot of Euskera spoken, head over the border to Spain.
