On the good recommendation from this ng, I reserved an airport shuttle from
Prague to the hotel. They said the cost is 1200 CZK, equivalent to about
3.6 GBP. But that don't seem right. Using a currency converter 1200 CZK is
US$45, which is way too expensive. 3.6 GBP is US$6, which would be an
excellent price but seems low to me.
So what is 1200 CZK in US dollars?

So what they told me is wrong. They said 1200 CZK is equivalent to 3.6 GBP.
There must be a decimal missing or something. You said you paid $46 US rt,
which is nowhere near any of those, either CZK or GBP.

If you're talking about prague-airport-shuttle.com their prices are
posted on their web site quite clearly in four currencies (CZK, GBP,
EUR and USD). I said I paid $46 US which is "around" their stated
price of 1300 CZK. (It's really more like $48, I was off by a
little). Whoever told you 1200 CZK=3.6 GBP was definitely wrong. But,
considering my 10 minute cab ride one way home from the airport here
in the US was $35, I considered their service a bargain. I also seem
to recall you said you needed service for 10 people so the individual
rate isn't relevant anyway.
I'd have emailed you instead of carrying on this conversation
worldwide but you're apparently using an invalid-but-looks-valid email
address. (Comes back "user unknown") Maybe you should use
[email protected] or something obviously invalid instead. I'm sure
some day when someone signs up for "peterl68 @ hotmail.com" they will
appreciate you not posting with their address... :-)

I found this site very useful when travelling:
http://www.oanda.com/convert/cheatsheet
You can print out a pocket sized conversion 'cheatsheet' that will quickly
tell you the price of things in the currency of your choice.
Obviously rates change, so you need to print them out just before you leave,
and realise that you'll get an approximation rather than an exact
conversion.
On my wish list for travelling in Europe: A site which compares fuel prices
in different countries. Often I'd like to know when I'm travelling from
country X to country Y, if I should fill up before or after crossing the
border.

OK it's my mistake. I booked the shuttle for 8. They said it's 1200 CZK.
That's total. It translates to 3.8 GBP per person. So the currency
conversion is correct. That's about $8 per person one way, which is an
excellent price. Thanks for recommending this company.
