Hi,
My boyfriend and I are looking into visiting Italy this May. We have found
out about Contiki tours, and trying to decide if this is the best way to go.
I'm a little concerned about all the bus time, and being able to have enough
independent time.
I'm not all that fond of tours, but the idea of having things planned and
not having to worry about the planning and getting around is very appealing.
If anyone has experience with Contiki, especially with 'Italian Highlights',
please share your experience/advice.
Thanks.

My thoughts are, having done a Contiki tour in NZ, is that if you are
interested in having a party time with people around your own age when
travelling and you are prepared to give up some travel freedom and
independance to get that then the Contiki tour is for you. If, however, you
are more interested in experiencing the place you are travelling to at your
own pace and in your own time then travel independently.
Also remember that you have no say who is in your tour group when you travel
with Contiki (and other operators for that matter) and you run the risk on
having to spend you entire tour with a person or people who will at best get
on your nerves or at worst spoil your trip becdause they are A-Grade jerks.
For me now travel is about experiencing the new and unexpected myself rather
than having it presented to me on a platter.
Good luck.
