Default Confirmation Requirements on European Flights

I am flying from Rome to Genoa on Air One (a small intra-European
airline) affiliated with Luftansa. I booked my through Europbyair.com
(over th internet) and have been instructed to re-confirm this flight 72
hours before departure. I was given the european phone number of the
airline to call in order to re-confirm.

I have some questions for anyone who is familiar with this
re-confirmation process:

1. How far in advance my I actually call to re-confirm.
2. What happens if I do not reconfirm? Or if I am unable to re-confirm
because of a language problem. Do they give away my seat?

Thanks
Howie

any hotel or any travel agency should be able to reconfim yr flight
without charging you.
72 hours is more than enough

I can't even remember when I last reconfirmed a flight. Including some on
Airone.

Smells like that site keeps a remnant of long gone times. Mind you, if
they say so...

Still, might be worth checking whether it's just that site boilerplate or
if it's really a requirement from the airline. The airline's web site
might give some indication.

Anyway, when I got an Airone ticket (through destina.ca) I surely did not
reconfirm, nor did they tell me to. BTW they codeshare with LH.

The universal deadline is set to 72 hours. "Western" airlines typically do
not require it (fortunately so because the procedure is all insane anyways).
For instance for Aeroflot flights I have always reconfirmed (I have not
ridden on them since 2001 though). A few years back two Finnish ladies were
dumped from the list of confirmed passengers by Aeroflot while visiting
Ceylon or India, I cannot recall which, because they didn't even know that
"reconfirmation" was imperative when flying with Aeroflot. I suppose it was
a bit laborous and expensive to recover from the incident.

One can phone the reconfirmation himself or let it for a travel agent or
hotel.

Singapore Airlines used to call you in your hotel to get you to
confirm your next flight.

Excellent service then. Last year I was inquiring by e-mail whether a
Finnair AY 098 flight from BKK departs on schedule to HEL (no confirmation
required though). I did not get any answer. When I appeared at Don Muang I
learned that Finnair has temporarily reduced the number of weekly flights
from seven to three and my flight was cancelled and I will fly next day. I
must say I was not too happy with Finnair at that moment.

I travelled Aeroflot about 3 months ago, and no confirmation was
required. In fact, given their reputation, I found very little to
complain about. Having said that, I was preposterously drunk about an
hour into the flight, along with quite a few others...

Forget what the airline requires; reconfirm anyway. The flight
time may have been changed. In fact, the flight may have actually
been cancelled or even eliminated from the schedule. Or the
computer may have munged it. Who knows? Play safe.

Three days is about right for you to change your plans, if
necessary. And I can't imagine that many airlines don't have
English-speaking personnel handling calls.

I've flown Aeroflot about 20 times and have never reconfirmed. Never
had any problems.

There is nothing to complain about. Their repuation is outdated by
about a decade or so.

The last time I didn't confirm a flight (that is, one for which I had made a
reservation a long time ahead), they had moved the departure time back
without notifying me and I almost missed the flight. I had made the
reservation with a third party, not a travel agent, but either online or
through a ticket broker.
