Coach Trip from Paris to London/Leicester and back.--Need advice.
 

I will be arriving in Paris from USA on 24th Dec Morning. I will be in
Paris from 24th Dec to 31st Dec. I would like to Visit my relatives in
Leicester, UK and spend about two days in Paris. What is the best way
to travel from Paris to London and further to Leicester. I have heard
about Eurostar--I would also like to know about Bus Coaches? I would
be happy if somebody can provide me some information about them
including url links, telephone number, how much it would cost round
trip, their frequency etc? Also, any suggestions as to things that
can be done in Paris with three kids ( who are less than ten)? Eiffel
Tower is a must --I assume.

You could fly from Paris (Charles de gaulle) to Luton using www.easyjet.com
n (ticketless airline - just turn up with your booking reference) and from
Luton airport you can take a train http://www.networkrail.co.uk/ about one
hour direct or a little longer if you need to change) assuming your rels
won't meet you at Luton. Easy jet may be under Euros 100 if you are lucky,
but it's a busy time for travel, so if u want to go book early and get a
cheaper ticket.

http://www.eurostar.com is the train link between Paris and London through
the tunnel. Nice journey. From London Waterloo station, you need to find
either a train or a bus. The bus can be found at London
http://www.nationalexpress.com - Waterloo Station is near the river and
near the London Eye from where you can see London !

I've traveled from Paris to London by coach and it was cheap,
but never again. The buses are not comfortable -- very close
seating. Seems to take forever. I think children would be tearing
out their hair, especially if they are as young as yours. Go Eurostar
or fly if you can possibly afford it.

You have lots of advice here.
I offer comments from somebody living near Leicester.

Don't fly to Stanstead (sorry, London Stansted). It will take longer to get
to eicester from there than any flight you took.

The best airport is East Mids.
Birmingham and London-Luton are also viable with train connections (albeit
Birmingham has weak train connections).

For me. I want to do the train sometime with the kids, and wouldn't
consider the bus with kids.


Dec 24 will become difficult out of London and Dec 25th. tres difficile
s'il n'est pas impossible !

However if you are here at Chritmas then a walk on Old John followed by a
pint at the Wheatsheaf has distinct merits !

Neither Eurostar nor the trains from London to Leicester run on Dec
25th and most things in Britain will be closed on that day. I'm not
sure about buses

There is at least one low-cost bus operator within Britain known as
Megabus not sure if they do the London-Leicester route

Otherwise you've had lots of good advice already. City centre to city
centre, London-Paris, Eurostar takes around the same time as flying
because the airports are a long way out of town. Bus is *much* slower
and I couldn't recommend unless you're desperate to save money.

For Eurostar, and for the train from London-Leicester, buying tickets
in the USA is usually NOT a good idea as they are likely to be more
expensive than those available within Europe

Uhh??? Birmingham International station is right next door, with trains
every few minutes to Birmingham New Street and Coventry, at both of which
connections can be made for Leicester.

I tried this with Leeds Amsterdam
It tried to use an airline that doesn't fly the route. It missed the
airlines that do. Who owns the tool?

I think it's his job to test his software. Similar sites only offer
routes, which cut price airlines serve.

I already got http://www.skyscanner.net/wings.asp to update their
website with the routes and airlines I am interested in.

I already get enough useless spam from BMI, without using his site to
get even more.

Trains tend to shut down early on 24 December but should be running
from London (and Luton Airport) to Leicester to mid-evening at least

National Express buses are not running on 25 December but are running
an only slightly reduced service on 24th.

Megabus operate one bus a day from London to Leicester currently
leaving at noon. Their December timetable is not yet published; they
are very unlikely to run on 25 December.

Looking at your dates again, you'll be travelling Paris - London on 31
December, not 24th, but the same comments apply - trains and buses
will tend to shut down a bit early for the day as the next day is a
major holiday. On major routes you will be OK until mid evening.

On 1 January they will be running but a reduced service. You shouldn't
have any problems.
