Default Cinque Terre

I have a cruise client whose ship will stop at the ports of Livorno
and Portofino. She would like to know how far it is to Cinque Terre,
and if it is a reasonable distance from those ports to visit for the
day? Also, if it is reasonably close, is there is a private car limo
that she could hire?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I believe Portofino is IN Cuique Terre. Have a look at a map!

Portfino is on the Italian Riviera the Cinque Terre (so named for the 5
towns that comprise the area) is further south north of la Spezia and south
of Levanto.

Livorno is in Tuscany and the cinque terre are about 50 miles north in the
province of Liguria. The best way to get there is via train. Take the fast
IC train from Livorno to La Spezia, which should take about an hour. Then,
change to the local train to Genova, which stops at all of the cinque terre
villages and takes about 15 minutes or so, depending upon which of the
villages you want to see. Vernaza is my (and a lot of people's favorite).
From there, you take can walk along the cliff trail to the other villages.
Portofino is another 30 or so miles north of the Monterosso, the
northernmost cinque terra.

Oh and from Portofino, the nearest train station is about a mile away in
Santa Margheria. The local train from there takes about 45 minutes to
Monterosso and another 5 to Vernazza. Getting to the cinque terra by car can
be done from either Portofino or Livorno, but it will be pricey to hire a
taxi or limo because it will require at least 5 or so hours...a full day if
you do it right. At one time, there were few roads to the towns (I believe
that there were none to a couple), now there are roads, but not between the
towns. You have to go out to the highway inland before coming back in.
In my mind, it is not worth it to just take a car to one town and just look
around. Besides the villages (which are very popular thanks to Rick Steves,
the main draw is the trails between them. I think that rail is the best
bet....but it depends upon how much time there is from the cruise ship.

There should be local boat services (at least during summer season) and
boats to hire with driver.

Might be the better option compared to a limo service.
