Default chunnel

Have any Americans here bought tickets online for the Chunnel?
I found 2 websites, Eurostar and one called raileurope. Any experience
with buying from them? Did they mail the tix to you?

Any info will help.

Thanks

my bad, it's called RailEurope, the other website I mentioned. And no, I'm
not
a desperate travel agent pushing some website, I really want to know how to
get
Chunnel tix and not send my money to some bogus website.

Thanks

Well if you use Visa or MasterCard it really does not matter- in event of
fraud you are completely protected. For example; I can lay my Visa card in
the middle of the street, report it lost (within 48 hours) and my loss is
ZERO (no matter what activity was charged to the card during that time).

How did you plan to pay for those tickets?

Eurostar is the local marketing arm for the passenger service here in the
UK. RailEurope is an SNCF subsidiary (I think) which acts as a distributor
for rail products in a number of countries. In the UK I could buy from
either, in the US I think you may have to use RailEurope.

No, you can't do this. You are required to take 'reasonable' care to
ensure the security of your card. The bank could refuse to reimburse
you if you deliberately allowed your card to be stolen.

Last chunnel trip was in 2001 and I just bought the tickets at the train
station in Avignon. I had a Eurailpass and they gave me the discount for
the chunnel train. Was not a big problem to get tickets the night before.
Do not know if cheaper if I bought here in the US, but was a 1 way ticket,
and I do not remember if I figured it was over priced.

RailEurope will mail tickets to you, however you pay a not-inconsiderable
surcharge over the price in Europe.

It is a lot more expensive to buy them on the day, though.

We bought tickets for travel last October, yes we are Americans from the US.

Raileurope has always been more expensive than the actual web sites run
by the train lines. Raileurope appears to charge more for the actual
travel and they charge a lot for the delivery.

We used the Eurostar site and bought tickets on line. We selected the
"pick up at the station" choice for ticket delivery. Works perfect,
just make sure you have the actual credit card with you to pick up
tickets that you used to purchase on line.

Also, if you're traveling one way rather than round trip compare the
fares for both types of travel, you may save some money in the end.

I've booked from the SNCB site and picked up in Brussel.
Seem to be oneway tickets at prebooking discount in the direction
Brussels-London only not in the opposite direction for some reason.

The only time I ever bought tickets for Eurostar I bought them at
a Eurostar counter in Heathrow Term 4 that was right across from
the outlet onto the concourse after customs. We would be taking
Eurostar two weeks hence. The gentleman at the counter pointed
out that since we were me, my wife, and our small daughter, that
there was a family ticket then available that beat all the deals
I saw, including a discount based on our Eurailpass.
