Any suggestions? I don't want to pay more than 30 euros a night for a
double. Also, how do you book these kinds of places from the US - do
you call them or what?
Thanks!

Unless you're there in peak season, you should be able to show up and find
prices like that anywhere at a hostal or pension. Just ask someone at the
train station or airport to point you toward the neighborhood that's
thickest with them.
If you do want to book one, phoning is best because you get confirmation
right away rather than waiting and wondering. It doesn't call significantly
more to call Spain than to call long-distance in the USA. Helps to know
Spanish, though, since people in Spain - especially at the budget places -
don't speak English nearly as much as most other places in Europe.

Unfortunately, I'm arriving by air at 10:30 at night, otherwise I
would just show up and look. But that late, I think I should have a
reservation. Any places you think are particularly good? Also, I'm
getting there June 26 - is that peak season yet?
Thanks!

I agree - 10:30 on June 26 does sound like a reservation would be a good
idea. Unfortunately I don't have any specific recommendations - places I've
stayed in Spain have largely been unmemorable. Affordable, clean, and each
indistinguishable from the last.
