Default Cheap Formule 1 hotels in Europe - quality?

Previously, I had booked Ibis hotels for my upcoming July stays in Malmo and
Goteborg.
Today I saw another hotel chain - Formule 1 - which is also run by Accor
(like Ibis). http://www.hotelformule1.com
It seems that these hotels are a bit remote in terms of location and they
have showers and toilets in the corridor, rather than in the room. The price
is about 50-60% of Ibis, which was usually the cheapest option I could find.
Thus, in Malmo, the price is 290 SEK inclusive - which works out to $37 US
(and this includes a double bed and a single bed).

Formule 1 also seems to have hotels in other parts of Europe.

Has anyone stayed at these hotels?

Yes of course they are well known
Very clean
small rooms with tv
low prices
optional breakfast with nothing special about them
Nothing to do with Ibis, they are just cheap, clean hotels OK for a night or
two
Dont expect to find them in the city centers!

Etap Hotel is another similar chain, although I believe they have
bathrooms in each room. About ¤40-¤50 per night around Paris.

The connection with Ibis is that both chains are run by the same
parent company - Accor. The way I found out about Formule 1 was doing
a search for Ibis hotels on the accor.com site.

Thanks for your response - it is reassuring.

I stayed at F1 hotels a couple of times, including the hotel in Malmo. As
others have said, they are very cheap, usually clean and very efficient;
OTOH the locations aren't that great and it isn't exactly the most
pitoresque hotel in the world. ;-) So, if you're only looking for a cheap
sleep for one or two nights it's not a bad choice, but if you can afford it
I would advise something better. Please note that the single bed is an
upper bed, above the double bed.

I myself also prefer something more "local"; all Formule 1 hotels are the
same all over the world (and I guess the same is true for the other Accor
chains).

BTW: Accor also has a chain in between F1 and Ibis, called Etap. The rooms
are usually the same as Formule 1 rooms, but they have private bathroom
facilities in the rooms. I don't know if they're also in Scandinavia,
though. I also once stayed at an Etap hotel in Lyon (France), which had
much better and larger rooms; I suppose it wasn't built as an Etap hotel,
but just taken over by Accor.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
David

Yes, this is very helpful.
Is the hotel in Malmo indeed 1.5 km from the train station, like the
clerk told me?
I think Ibis might have the same arrangement with the single and
double bed - the clerk at one of the hotels tried to explain it to me
over the phone, and it sounds like what you are describing. Is the
arrangement comfortable for the person who is stuck in the upper bed?

Yes, but there's a suburban station closeby (forgot the name, but the clerk
should be able to tell you) and there's also frequent bus service from a
bus stop nearby. This is pretty special for F1 hotels BTW; most of them are
very hard to reach by public transit.

Could be. From what I heard, Ibis hotels vary more from place to place. I
only stayed once in an Ibis hotel, and our rooms had two single beds. Could
be different in Malmo though.

It depends. I had no problems with it; the bed is comfortable enough. I can
be a bit of a hassle though if you need to visit the bathroom in the middle
of the night. ;-)

David
