Hi,
I'm having a heck of a time finding a cheap fare from San Francisco to
either Madrid or Barcelona leaving July 5 or 6 and returning July 12 or
13. Tried Priceline and Cheaptickets and both were over $900. I was
hoping to pay more in the $600-700 range. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom

www.bestfares.com always has some cheap tickets. The problem is that in
order to find out if they have the specific dates you want, you need to
become a member, nevertheless, I once got a really great fare with them to
Lisbon and I know of others who were happy about finding low fares in peak
summer season. I'd say it was well worth the price of membership, even if
for the remainder of the year I never had occasion to use their services.
If you do join, be aware that they will automatically charge your credit
card to renew your membership after a year's time. They were quite nice,
however, in crediting my account when I said I wasn't interested.
You will probably see posts hear saying that Bestfares are useless, but I've
found that if you find an airfare that really interests you, it's worth
joining--especially if more than one person is flying, since only one of the
group needs to be a member. And make sure you study the restrictions first.

Get on Travelocity several times a day, particularly at night (after about
11pm eastern). Fares change all the time; be there when they're low.

Try Orbitz too. Airlines are trying to fill every seat and sometimes a
cheap fare will appear
and then disappear shortly thereafter.
