When using your card, try to ensure the bank is open, just in case the machine swallows it. Happened to me once, and I got it back straight away. -- --- DFM - http://www.deepfriedmars.com --- -- |

Most of them are open all the day ( 8.30 to 6.00 pm ) and the rate of change is fixed and commissions are fixed.- we are talking about changeing money ATM machines are almost everywhere and the rate of change is better. pls note that they normally give an amout of 250 eur a day and no more than 1250 eur a month Visa and Mastercard are also widely accepted AMEX a little less commonly |

With Venice machines ( and most places elsewhere). I have never found a monthly limit. -- there is often a 250 euro limit per transaction, and my U.S. bank puts a two per day limit-- but I have often cashed several thousand in a week with no problem. Got to pay the rent! If I am in need, I use my wife's card ( for the same account) , and I can get another two transactions . And I can go to another bank's machine for more . rjf |

My bank sets a daily and weekly limit. The limits can be changed on request depending on the state of your account. I did manage to withdraw six times the individual ATM limit in Milan in an hour by going from bank to bank. OTOH in France I once exceeded my own bank's weekly limit. Your bank should tell you what the limits on your account are set to if you ask. -- Martin |

I know there's a daily limit, but I hadn't thought of a weekly or monthly limit. ( Latin name : Ulcisa castra.. ) It boasts a very small historical centre. but a very nice serbian orthodox church and annexed museum If you have time. go to EGER, with an old turkish minaret and a very nice castle. When you are in Budapest, you might look for an inscription in memory of those who defended the town from Turkish invaders.. ( It is on the walls of the Fishermen Defenses ) their commander was Raimondo Montecuccoli, an italian nobleman from a small village near my home town ( Montecuccolino ) Later and finally turks were defeated bu a Cristian fleet in Lepanto.. where the admiral in Chief was Andrea Doria.. a famous admiral from Genova. |

Too much added cost. My ATM has a $900 / day limit and I can draw $900 / day every day until my checking account runs out of money. Never drew more than that and some banks have a $250 limit per transaction. Asked the bank to increase my limit when I went overseas about 2001. They did not have a problem with it, but I do have a high bank rating. Maybe an Italian ATM card has a monthly limit, but US seems to only have a daily limit. |

Now the big banks in America are charging bigtime on foreign use of ATMs. That just started recently--been reading articles on it. So check your bank's policy. |

Mel wrote:

In one case it was a minimum of $10 or 3% of the withdrawal. In another case it was $2 a day for a $90 withdrawal...until the monthly bill is paid. In the 2nd instance if you withdrew money on the first day of your billing cycle you would pay $60 on a $90 withdrawal. When I went to Eastern Europe the order of the day was to use cash to buy the foreign currency. I'm thinking that is what to do in Italy to buy Euros and use credit cards for purchases. Does that make sense? Jo |
