The Stonehenge hoax was subsidized by the Wiltshire County Council in
the late 1960s when it became apparent that Wiltshire was arguably the
dullest county in Britain. Due to the success of the biggest
marketing trick ever played by a local authority, the economy in and
around Salisbury Plain has since boomed to the extent that some shops
can barely keep enough stock of tartan trousers and fake Irish
souvenirs.

The proprietors of Bed and Breakfasts in the vicinity of Stonehenge
have long been accused of creating crop circles in order to retain
interest in an area which, let's be honest, only point of interest is
a few dull stones.

In order to restore faith in my commitment to tartan-trousered
tourists with fake Irish ancestry I consider it my duty to tour the
area of Salisbury Plain (which is, after all, in outer London) and
patronize the various hostelries. I shall honour the "no solids" rule
concerning B&B toilet ettiquette. I shall also honour the "no
masturbation" rule which they religiously impose. However, I shall
not submit myself to the mandatory 0600hrs "heart attack" breakfast
with a hangover in the company of tartan-trousered strangers.

The last time I stayed in a Bed and Breakfast, I agreed in advance to
pay an extra £10 so that I could avoid the mandatory 0600hrs fry up.
Money well spent. However, I did have to vacate the room by 0630hrs
and do my own laundry. Oddly, I even had to wash the landlady's
smalls.

Starting my own thread in news:rec.travel.europe or
news:uk.local.london would be off-topic. Therefore, in the interests
of netiquette, I shall start my own cross-stitched thread in
news:rec.crafts.textiles.needlework. If you let met know which clan
your fake Irish ancestry stems from, I shall endevour to knit you a
pair of tartan pants.

Strange how the question from the OP has changed to bashing "others". Oh well,
there is room in this world for everyone and it is time to end this bashing. For
those who wish to bash, perhaps it is time to go back to the "grog" and the side
effects thereof.

Usually, though there are honest answers to honest questions. Nevertheless, that
does mean B.S. can still occur.

Now for someone's last word that I won't be reading (as I will no longer look at
this thread). For the embittered few who wish to continue with it, please continue
to piss into the wind.

Advice to Fustanella: it's OK to leave something to chance. You can
stay at a place, and if it's a disaster, just spend one night. And it
won't be a disaster, it's just a B&B.

Relax a little, and leave yourself the chance of having an adventure.

If I wanted to spned a night or two near Salisbury, I'd just call the
local tourist office or the AA the day before. It doesn't need to be
done weeks ahead.

[oh, and if you don't want to get aggro flames, don't crosspost to
uk.local.london. You know what they say: "If you're tired of London .

Indeed, the brewery made a planning application to have the stones
which were originally aligned in the centre of what is now a circle
moved, which is why we now have a circle of stones with a pub in the
centre.

Good advice.

Bad advice. Fust. has had loads of good advice from regulars here in
many recent threads over the last few weeks. The humour receptor needs
turning up a notch from time to time, that's all.

Agreed. Fust. has proved clueful, sensible, humo(u)rous and an all-round
interesting individual, who knows what London's all about. We'll happily
welcome all the Fustanella clan here and hope they have a really good time.

They're slobs, unlike your run-of-the-mill white witches who bring brooms
and dustpans along with.

Didn't have much joy interrogating the brother-in-law about the museums
in Avebury, alas. Like me, he'd heard of them but hadn't been to them.

It could be worth checking with them before you get there to make sure
they're open - they appeared to be shut on a Saturday lunchtime when we
passed through, but the same could be said for the rest of Avebury.

Luckily, they can't shut the stone circle down, but in light of a few
idiots spraying anti-war graffiti, maybe it should be closed down during
off-peak hours.

Good luck and have a good journey

Pete
