Hi
I would be grateful for any advice regarding the levels of traffic in
Ljubljana. I am planning to rent a car here and drive towards Bled and
the Soca Valley, though I am considering hiring a car at the airport
to make the journey less stressful in terms of not having to drive in
Ljubljana itself. Does this sound sesnisble or a little over the top?
thanks in advance

Hi Simon,
when exactly will you come? Traffic in Ljubljana is very low now in
August, but it will increase in the beggining of September when school
starts and it will become unbearable in October when also students are
back.
At the moment it is not difficult to get a parking place on the
streets in the center, which is, of course, not for free. :((( With
autumn this becomes impossible. Rush hours are from 6:30 to 8:30 in
the morning and from 14.00 to 17:30 in the afternoon, what could be
good to know from September on.
At the moment driving in the city is a piece of cake. :) Just take
care, when the evening starts and later in the night, when these young
local birds try to show their mates how excellent drivers they are. :(
Now in August it is very important to avoid highways, specially on
weekends. They are filled up with German and Italian tourists passing
the country on the way to/from Croatia. In mid September everything
will be back to normal. :) Use the regional roads.
If you are still thinking about having a car here in Ljubljana or not,
I can say that basically you don't need it. But if you'd like to visit
city surroundings, don't rely much on public transport - in summertime
buses are cut by the half at least. Anyway you will need a car in the
Soca valley. :)
Cheers,
T
