Default buy Euros before travel next year

Hi all .. I am traveling next April to Europe for about a month long
visit. Given that everyone is talking about the falling $, I am
considering to buy euros now before it rises even further (maybe). I
would like to ask if anyone knows of places to exchange currency at
competitive rates. I live in Denver, CO and the only place I have
found so far is the local Wells Fargo bank. The rate they are offering
today (11/29/04) is 1.3925 ($ to E).

Thanks
-SG

It is probably as good as you will get. On the O&A website Travelex is offering
only 1.41. If you buy, get currency, not travellers cheques.

Assuming that this is a good idea, wouldn't it be better to buy a short-term
Euro-denominated certificate of deposit for about the amount you expect to
need?

If you can do this in a European bank perhaps you could arrange to withdraw
the funds directly from that bank after the CD matures in April.

Mind, I have never done anything like this. It just seems better than tying
up a month's worth of funds in cash or travelers' checks for four-plus
months.

Good luck!

Maybe? Maybe with a different, fiscally responsible, Administration!

I don't know about Denver, but here we have money changers who offer
much better rates than banks. No, I don't know the current rates.
You've probably already checked your Yellow Pages so I don't know
what else to suggest.

Look harder, isn't there a ThomasCook in Denver? They been in Travel
Services for a very long time. And are quite well known for their
money exchange services.
If not, I'd be willing to bet that American Express has an office in
Denver! And they can sell ya, traveller's checks in Euros. If not the
actual paper money.

WF or any other standard bank, just have too many service charges.
They keep claiming that they aren't in the money-exchange business.
