Default Budget hotels in London (The Times)

On Saturday, The Times had a piece about budget hotels in London. The URL is
http://travel.timesonline.co.uk/arti...310787,00.html
(readers outside UK or after the next few days may need to register with
TimesOnline to see the full article, which has reviews of each hotel which I
have not quoted here.)

All the reviews of budget hotels I've ever seen are about hotels in London.
The one place I would never want to stay! How about a review of budget
hotels in general, that DOESN'T include London! Mostly because London is so
different from the rest of the UK.

I think the next article in the series is about Paris.

Fair point, but a review of budget hotels in London is useful because even
mediocre hotels can be very expensive. Outside London, mid-range hotels are
more affordable, and there are more alternatives like B&Bs and travel lodge
type places.

I don't get the gag. There aren't any budget hotels listed.

They reckon that is budget for London! Elsewhere these chains have rooms for
around half that price. They really have no idea.

By English standards, Drury Lane, High Holborn, WC2. From £45 for two
adults and two children, is exceedingly cheap.

Yes. That was exactly what I was wondering. Though the the two under £50
might qualify, they say they are lead-in rates, and undoubtedly higher when
you actually try to book something.

Having had the misfortune to stay at both the Regent Palace Hotel and
Holiday Inn Bloomsbury in the last few months, I can definately
recommend that you choose alternative accommodation in London !

I've stayed at two Holiday Inns in or near London and both were fine. What
was wrong with Holiday Inn Bloomsbury?

I think everyone should stay at the Regent Palace. Once.

The nice thing about staying at the Regent Palace is that home always seems
so amazing clean and spacious upon return; I do not get this feeling when
staying at most hotels!
