I found this a bit hard to believe:

"Foreign Office research last year suggested 24% of people on stag and
hen parties faced problems abroad."

I suppose it depends what problems refer to?

I get fed up with this self-mud slinging.
Has no-one ever seen German parties on the rampage, for instance?
And the Finns - Oh those Finns!
And that "24%" is frankly unbelievable.
Means some local consulates have some extra work to do which, from what I've
seen, makes a change.

This has come up before.

The BBC Radio 4 programme 'Today' did a feature about drunken Brits in
Prague a couple of years ago, they interviewed the chief of police.

Interviewer: And how do you like the streets of your city choked with
drunken young Englishmen.

Prague Chief of Police: I'd rather have them than sober Germans...

The bloody diplomatic service would prefer people went to Blackpool.
Anything that drags them away from playing at pretending to be James Bond is
a distraction.

What on earth do they think we pay them for?

So that they can enjoy an extended holiday in the capital cities of the
world, drinking cocktails paid for from public funds as their colleagues
from other countries invite them around every other evening, and then fill
their own office hours planning their reciprocation...

The Amsterdam Consulate have more than enough work and do a good job.
Don't confuse consulates with embassies.

I don't see it that way. I think it's quite interesting.

Wherever I've travelled in Europe so far, the largest loudest parties
have tended to be English. Now, that might also be because they
represent the biggest single group of people who make such trips- I
don't know.

agree.

Barcelona is always busy- theft is definitely a problem there, at least
for UK tourists.

I think it's useful for Brits to be aware of this kind of thing. A lot
of the stories I've read (thinking of a recent case in Bratislava)
involved people getting drunk, and doing things which in the UK would
amount to a caution or a fine, if that. Meanwhile, they get banged up in
a foreign jail. It's important for people to know that, just because
it's easy to fly to a foreign destination, they can't just expect to act
like they would (and in many cases _wouldn't_) at home.
