Britons down 1.5bn pints on holiday
Britons down 1.5bn pints on holiday
Boozy Britons will down enough lager to fill more than 8,000 swimming
pools while on holiday this summer.
They will guzzle their way through more than 1.5 billion pints of
lager, a survey by the Sky Travel channel found.
One in six will drink 100 pints during a fortnight away - seven times
the recommended consumption level for men.
Most holidaymakers will get through at least five drinks a day and
spend an average of £128 on alcohol.
On average, Britons will spend a full three days of a two-week break
languishing in bed with a hangover.
Based on responses from 3,000 holidaymakers, the survey found that
Scots are the biggest boozers on holiday, with 70% drinking alcohol on
every day of their break.
Some 75% of tourists said they are happy to sample the local tipple,
but 65% said they would not dream of drinking it back home.
It was also revealed that ouzo was the most reviled "foreign" drink,
followed by Pernod, sangria and grappa.
Four out of five said they suffered from holiday hangovers which would
render them unproductive for at least two days upon their return to the
UK, with 19% taking a whole week to recuperate.

annual fortnight in the sun and it is inevitable that they will want to
let off some steam. Yet some tourists treat every night like it's New
Year's Eve, leaving them exhausted and sorely in need of a holiday from
a holiday upon their return."

death certificates in 2004, compared with 5,525 in 2000, the ONS
figures show. Tens of thousands more people will have died as an
indirect result of alcohol from conditions such as heart disease and

At least then I won't feel so bad about paying NI contributions all my life,
and as of yet, touchwood never having used a hospital or a doctors in my
life - apart from when I popped out of course.
