On-line Train Timetables
Hi,
What is the best sites for looking up an itenery for a Eurail pass?
We are intending on traveling within Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy,
France and Spain.
I have purchased the passes (but have not received the documentation yet).
We are travelling from early May and may have some connecting trains to
catch e.g. Brussels to Munich (I think there is a change at Frankfurt?)
Should we make reservations on any trains? How do we make the reservations?
Thanks,
Andrew.

Best sites for rail timetables in all Europe are those of the German
railways. I like this one for the lighter interface (in English)
http://home.arcor.de/e.lauterbach/au...fplanx-en.html
If you want fare information, you have to use each country's national
railway site though.

Andrew,
You should receive the Eurailpass schedule with your pass. It's a
compact booklet of trains between major cities. In addition to that, the
best timetable to have is the Thomas Cook European Timetable. This is
available at http://www.thomascooktimetables.com. Order a copy and carry
it with you.
Reservations are required on some trains. This is noted by an R in the
column in the TC European Timetable. Otherwise reservations are a good
idea on international trains on Friday and Sunday, after noon. Buy your
reservations in Europe at train stations.
For much more about using the trains in Europe visit my page at

www.bahn.de is the best resource you can have. an absolute gem of a
site. used it all last year with eurail passes. can't recommend it
enough. you don't *really* need to make reservations but sometimes (eg
if you head towards munich in late september) it can be necessary.
generally you should just jump on the train.

Re: On-line Train Timetables
The Milan to Venice route can be quite busy at times, particularly in
February, another candidate for reservations.

How reliable are the Thomas Cook timetables. I know our local train
schedules here can change at a moments notice. Are they not outdated
as soon as they're printed?
Andrew.
BTW the link given above is not available.
