Default Berner Oberland - Early May - Is it worth it?

I'm planning on taking my first trip to Europe in early May and was
originally planning on a 2 to 3 night stay in the Berner Oberland
(Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen). It sounds like a great place to visit
but I keep reading that early May is a dead time for tourism and many
of the resorts, lifts and trains are closed during this time. Is it
worth making this stop on my trip? Is the weather typically pleasant
during this time?
