Suggestions please.
Going from Amsterdam to Prague, I plan to stop either in Hamburg, Berlin, or
Dresden. However, I tried to check some tours (such as Grayline or Viator) but
it seems that there are not much in these cities. Which of these cities would
you recommend staying 1 or 2 nights?
Right now, I'm thinking of Berlin but not sure whether to stay for 1 or 2
nights. Thanks.

Just one person's opinion...
Hamburg would be my third choice (out of the three). Berlin is a wonderful
city -- whatever your tastes may be. Dresden is lovely -- I assume it is
fairly well fixed up since the floods. Choose Dresden if you enjoy
architecture; choose Berlin for a wide variety of just about everything.

Yeah, Berlin is probably the best choice. It has more to offer than the
other two. Two nights would barely be enough though. I found 6 full days
only just scratched the surface. A fantastic city with the most amazing
history, architecture, museums, parks, nightlife etc. It is a BIG city
though. Very spread out in comparison to the rest of Europes capitals.
I would suggest taking a walking tour if you are going to be there for just
a day. That should cover off most of the stuff you want to see.

tour op in berlin: http://buchung.ferienglueck-sonnenschein.de/vermietung/
tour op saxonia: http://www.saxonia-touristik.de/eng/uebersicht.htm
Ask there, whether the dresden museums re-opened. here in hamburg
we've an exhibition with paintings that used to be in dresden before
the flood
i'd suggest berlin for 2 or 3 days, dresden for 1 day

Yes, Berlin. Poor one if you only have 2 nights. Culture, nightlife,
museums, Architecture, compared to Berlin the other two are villages.
Bizarre contrasts still exist after 40 years separation by a wall.
Hamburg and Dresden were almost completely destroyed during the
bombing massacres of 44 and 45. Dresden is a museum of socialist
architecture, interesting, but somehow depressing, mile long concrete
places for parades and so.

what is your mode of conveyance from Amsterdam to Prague and when do
you expect to go? I came across "love parade" in Berlin on 12th of
July. You may like to check that out :

??? I hope that's not all you've seen in Dresden - in fact I wonder how the
statement above could be your remaining impression from this beautiful city.
Have a look at my Dresden page here:
http://www.uni-giessen.de/~gk22/dresden.html ("socialist architecture"?!).
Of course there are tons of other nice pages about Dresden - e.g.
http://www.ortech-engr.com/users/dresden/beinacht.html
and about Saxony e.g.: http://www.sachsen-tour.de/index_en.php3

Do you mean there isn't much to see in these cities or that these
companies from America and Australia doesn't offer many tours in
these German cities?

The latter (i.e., not much offered by Grayline or Viator). Any local companies
you can suggest?
Thanks.

Well, there are some "sterling" examples of "socialist architecture" in
Dresden, e.g. Prager Strasse and the high - rises on the outskirts, but
Dresden is by and large a very charming town, and a lot of reconstruction
has gone on since the DDR days (reconstruction of the Cathedral),
re-vitalization of neighborhoods, etc.
Prager Strasse is not such a bad example of socialist architecture. It's
relatively small - scale, and not nearly as bleak as say, Alexanderplatz in
Berlin....

Don't miss "Sachsen Scweiz"! Good hiking opportunities. And take a "White
Fleet" excursion boat down the Elbe to Schloss Pillnitz, etc......
The town of Meissen is a short ways away. It's layout is similar to Prague
(much smaller, of course), and you can tour the Meissen porcelain
factory.....

Well, Viator looks to offer a good basic selection:
http://www.shop.viator.com/brochure/...sp?CITY=BERLIN
There are plenty of other tour companies (these tours have always been
popular in Berlin;, since Berlin is a huge city). Just google "berlin
sighseeing tours" and you'll get plenty of hits. There are boat trips,
coach trips, etc.

The last three photos do not seem to display.
I hope the floods did not destroy the wooden floors and other
beauties of the Semperoper. WWII, the communists, now the
floods. What a pity!

Sorry to hear that - they display fine in IE 5 and Netscape 4.7 - and since
all pictures on the page are GIFs, I'm surprised to hear that some of them
display and some don't. But essentially they are too big for a web page anyway
- it was my first attempt on creating a web page - the best thing is to go
and see for yourself![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
