Default Berlin Districts

Hello

Addresses for accommodation in Berlin refer to a district:

Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg Neukollen, Schoenberg,
Wilmeersdorf, Tiergarten, Charlottenburg, Wedding.

Can someone advise about which are best to stay at regarding general
ambience, transport, distance to main attractions etc.

Tiergarten, Charlottenburg and Mitte are quite central, however, the
hotels there are good, but quite expensive. Transportation in Berlin
is excellent all over the city. Have a look at:

Each township has its own spirit and I highly reccomned you to buy a
good guidebook and read about the different townships and decide from
what you like the most.

I am very surprised noone have mentioned Kreutzberg, just south of
Mitte. This is a very Berlinish township with a lot of small ethnic
restaurants, cafes and shops. You can find areas of Kreutzberg that is
like a small village in the center of a big city. If you look for
inexpensive accomondation there are several options in Kreutzberg as
well.

Many thanks to those who replied.

The information is most helpful. We (a lively retired couple of
independent travellers) are looking forward to our visit.

We are coming by train from Kobenhavn so I assume we arrive at your nice
new railway station (not in guidebooks yet).
