Sure. I get Kurpfalz at 49 EUR with breakfast or Mercure City at 65 EUR,
also with breakfast.

The hotel was closed for public for a long time when bug busters went
after vermin.

Single rooms with breakfast and en suite bathroom, in the 60 euro range.

Sure, and that IS the problem. In a few cities at least in Europe,
there are correct hotels in the center for cheap. I know a lot in
Paris and Madrid, Roma and Amsterdam for example.
In Moscow, the choice is to spend $300 and more by night and be in the
center, OR $60/$80 and be far away. And that is bad, as a lot of
tourists are a bit (!) afraid of moving by metro or "taxi", in Moscow.
(IMO that's stupid, but...)

I saw it opened 2 weeks ago, but today I dono ! Anyway according to
the Mayor, it won't be demolished, but renovated - completely. That's
a good thing as it's one of the worse hotels in Moscow, in the best
location!

It's in Sovietsky hotel at the beginning of Leningradsky Pr., and..

That is only 50% stupid. Taxi drivers in Moscow will try to squeeze
lots of money out of passengers, so avoiding taxis is not stupid. But
the metro is convenient, fast, and cheap. If someone can figure out
how to ride the Paris, London, Munich, or other large city metro,
they can figure out how to ride the Moscow metro.

What about Tsentralnaya? Singles for US$20, doubles for US$35. It's
got authentic Russian customer service, where the bitch at the front
desk wouldn't sell you a smile, but the hookers that hang around there
will, plus more. Heck, what's a trip to Moscow without a bit of sleaze
and grime?
I was going check in for my honeymoon, but it was too expensive, and
decided to stay in the bomb shelter for a very reasonable US$10 a
night p-p.

Perhaps we have differing ideas of 'cheap'...
