We don't go where there's "deafening music". Please see

at the site at Left in the sig.

While you're there, take a look at the SPECIAL EVENTS in San
Francisco and environs page, and maybe the 2005 Archive page

April that I started putting an asterisk with events that we intend
to attend.

Nor to us.

Quite well, thank you.

No. Although people as old as we are a minority at the places we go
(as we are as a population group, anyway), we're not the only ones;
some are older. Most places we go have a broad age range of patrons.
Some often have children.

That's the problem with almost any venue that one would call a
"nightclub" here. I don't go to them much, but whenever I've been
dragged along I've used earplugs. Even then, I think it's dangerous for
the hearing.

Sure, were we to find a place we regard as suitable.

Well, yes, you could preserve your ignorance of things you might not
know.

We never fail to have ear plugs with us. We usually have no need for
them but there are occasions.

But clubbing in Barcelona is about thumping loud music.

I have sufficient knowledge of the dangers of loud music, I avoid
it. I like to go to places where its possible to talk to people.

You could say the same about San Francisco or any other place if
that's all you know about. We manage to find places that are not
loud, have good music, good floors where purses, drinks, and burning
embers are not taken, and good dancers. They exist everywhere, the
100 Club in London, for example, and other places I went there, and
we went in Paris as you can read in "Two Weeks in Paris"
<http://geocities.com/iconoc/Articles/ParisDid.html> at the site at
Right in the sig.

So do we. Here's an excerpt from "How to Play for Dancing"
<http://geocities.com/dancefest/Articles/HowPlay.html#t> at the site
at Left in the sig:

<< VOLUME: Our dances are very social events with much conversing.
High volume is unwelcome. On the other hand, we have to hear you.
When in doubt, opt for low, rather than high, volume (Please see
<Ears About Pain: MUSIC, DANCING, and TINNITUS; Sabotaged by
Sound; How Sweet the Sound;
http://geocities.com/dancefest/EarsPain.html#t>). >>

Yes, I've been to the 100 Club, its untypical of "clubbing in
London" as any similar club in Barcelona would be untypical,
still doesn't interest me or I assume the OP.

Gee, a place that's not loud, has good music, a good floor where
purses, drinks, and burning embers are not taken, and good dancers.
Similar "untypical" places exist everywhere. They are typical of the
places I patronize.

You have contradicted your blanket statement and confirmed that what
I said to be correct. Thank you.

My generalisation still applies. Places like the 100 Club are
atypical. Typically, in Barcelona and London, clubbing involves
young people, noise, drugs and late nights. You said yourself you
search out "special events" in SF. I'm not criticizing dancing,
trad or modern, its just not of interest to the OP or me. I would
rather be in a bar or restaurant, I get the impression the OP
would rather be in bed!.

No, I didn't say that. I suggested that you look at the SPECIAL
EVENTS in San Francisco and environs page
<http://geocities.com/dancefest/Specials.html#t> at the site at Left
in the sig where events we intend to attend are indicated by an
asterisk to illustrate a point.

    >I get the impression the OP would rather be in bed!.

You're probably correct. I get that impression about you, too.

As detailed near the inception of this thread, there are forms of
entertainment in night clubs that are not dancing.
