We're read the Michelin ratings and some other reviews and there are more
"good" spots than we'll have time for, so we would particularly welcome
personal recommendations for dining for two in Avignon this time of year. We
tend to favor "traditional" preparations. Thanks.

You are right about Avignon. If smoke is a concern, Isle Sonnant is the
only non smoking restaurant that I know in France. I wasn't tatally
thrilled with my meal when we went, but it was my fault I ordered wrong,
the folks who were with us had fish and it was superb. (the desserts were,
well we still talk about the desserts, favorably)

"I am glad you asked.about dining in Avignon Sorry for the delay.
Just about my best meal in the whole of France was at the "Hiely
Lucullus", admittedly about 9 months ago. And it was very affordable
as well - if you stick to the "formule."
The waiter was most helpful and spoke reasonable English. Ask his
advice about a wine and selection of cheeses.
The restaurant is in the main street, on the first floor. It is rather
small, so booking is essential.
If you can't get in, there are several good restaurants in the street
parallel to the main street, on the left, when you are heading towards
the Palace, including another one owned by M. Hiely.
But keep away from the tourist traps near the Palace that display the
menu in four languages.
