Default ATMs at Heathrow

Flying to London soon and need to know where to find
ATMs at Heathrow to obtain English currency. Will be
flying American Airlines, don't know which terminal that
will be. I see no reason to change any money in advance,
assuming cash machines are readily available.

You are right. No reason.

American Airlines is Terminal 3

From the www.baa.com website - -
Cash dispensers are available both before and after security search. All
cash dispensers will accept all valid UK bank and building society cards
(i.e. Link affilitated) without surcharge. They also acccept major credit
cards.

You'll arrive at Terminal 3. As you exit the customs/immigration hall
into the terminal, there will be an area that has lots of people
holding signs for taxis and so forth. ATMs are along the opposite
wall from where you exit, a bit to the right if memory serves.

Sadly, no. You must remember that England is a very backward country.
Heathrow Airport is little more than a field near Hounslow Heath which has
been ploughed to provide a simple airstrip, and there are no cash machines
there.

You may be able to hire a horseman to take you to the Bank of England in
Threadneedle Street. They may possibly (and I give no guarantee here) have
heard of US Dollars and so be able to help.

Incidentally, while in the UK, you should regularly check your armpits for a
red rash which is ring-shaped in appearance. If you detect any sign of this,
you should return home immediately and seek medical advice.

Enjoy your stay!

This was quite unnecessary. I have visited England many times over.
I simply wanted to know where to find the cash machines at Heathrow.
And guess what, some kind person gave me precise directions on just
where to find them. I like to gather this kind of precise information before
I travel, because I find it better to have it than to aimlessly walk around
a huge airport. Last two times I visited England I came from France on
the Chunnel train and quite forgot what I once knew about Heathrow.

I hope I don't make such sarcastic responses when someone from England
asks for the same kind of info about airports in NYC.

Thanks -- exactly what I wanted to know.

This answers my question about the terminal where we land - although I
am not the one to ask the question!
Perhaps you or someone else who reads this - can answer another
question for me
After landing at Terminal 3, we plan to take the Airbus into the city.
I have been told that the airbus terminal (?) at Terminal 3 is closed
for repairs, and that we have to go elsewhere to catch the bus.
however I don't know exactly where the "elsewhere'"is.

Can someone give me this information? I assume that trolleys will be
available in the areat where we pick up our luggage, so that won't be
a problem unless it is miles away.

Cheers,

Brahmama

I don't in any way criticise you for posting this polite request for
information (and you got your answer quickly), though questions about
ATM's are very common here. A quick, and simple, google search on ATM's
and Heathrow would give lots of results.

I've proposed before that it might be a good idea to post a list of
European airports where ATM's either are scarce, or don't exist. I'm
tempted to go out on a limb and say that for major airports, that's
almost impossible. Certainly, for airports you'll fly into from the US
(which is where most such requests seem to come from.)

Also, it would be good to know which airports have ATM's airside as well
as landside.

Apart from the fact she will arrive at Terminal 3.

I suspect it is the bus depot near T1/2 which is only a few minutes walk.
but there is an information point in T3 you can ask when you get there.

Millions of free trolleys where you collect your baggage.

I agree that an airport that did not offer ATMs would be a rare one and
worth knowing about. I also agree that a Google search would most
probably turn up some info on ATMs in various airports. But a group like
this one is very handy indeed for asking a specific question, such as
"where are the ATMs at Heathrow" and getting a quick answer.

In my travels I've learned not to rely on expecting the same amenities in
every venue. As an example, before ATMS became ubiquitous, I came to
expect European rail stations would have kiosks to change money. Until
I arrived in Italy having got there through the St. Bernard tunnel by bus, and
without changing currency in advance, and found not only were there no
money changers at the station but that the banks were closed. Now I do
check things out in advance.

I don't disagree with that, but the answer you got was, basically,
"you'll see them there." I concede that's the answer you wanted, and
needed. Now, that's pretty much the case with any big airport in Europe
now. I can't remember one that I've been to and had to think "now, where
are the ATM's." So, I think that an online list, perhaps updatable,
where the airports to the contrary were mentioned, would be helpful. For
example, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the small airports used by
the budgets don't always have ATM's- but even then things are changing
rapidly.

www.baa.com/main/airports/heathrow is the horse's mouth on this.

American Airlines flies into Terminal 3, and on the T3 facilities page
it says
Cash dispensers are available both before and after security search.
