We're heading to Greece next summer and will be spending a few days
next June in Athens. Since we'll only be there a couple days, we'd
perfer to be in the City Center (Plaka, Monastiraki or Makriyanni). We
tend to favor self-catering apartments or B&Bs but would like to get
any recommendations for lodging in these areas.

Monastiraki

Plaka Hotel, or was it Hotel Plaka? has done me & mine fine on several visits, for a reasonable price.
Please remember that Athens is hosting a little event next summer and hotel space is already at a premium.
