Default Any effects of the new opening hours int eh UK?

So, since the liberalisation of the opening hours in the UK the other week
- have there been any noticeable changes? Thousands of lager louts dying of
alcohol poisoning at 4 am ? Violent car-park skirmishes a thing of the
past?

Civilisation as we know it seems to have largely neglected to end,
although I won't be holding my breath while I wait for the Daily Mail
to acknowledge it.

That's the impression I got, I hadn't heard anything in the news.

(And my spelling checker doesn't check the subject line. Dammit.)

There's been no change, because there's been no change in when the
pubs open in the majority of places.

In the place I've been out drinking since the liberalisation, pubs are
generally open no more than they were before, ie 12, other than a
couple, these couple have all instituted you must be in by 11:30
policy, so the actual ability to use those who open later is heavily
basically nil, unless you're the sort of person who was going to have
been in a club by then anyway.

I'd suggest that the new licencing powers have actually reduced the
options for drinking.

At least I can buy alcohol when I normally do my shopping.

Jim.

No. I hear it's still Sodom and Gomorrah in Edinburgh though.

I bet that awoke the Finn from his drunken slumber.

Given his recent spate of attacks on Mixi, I suspect some kind of
attraction. What would be Markku's dream date? A gay jewish american
maybe? :) 100 proof Markku of Finland doesn't respond to my posts
though, so he might have plonked me already. It would therefore be
extremely inconsiderate of you to follow-up to this post, and let him
see it! :)

I answered you already! :)

A lot of the pubs that I've passed with increased hours haven't
increased them by that much. To be fair, it's going to take longer to
see if there are adverse affects.

Its two places is it? I had assumed Gomorrah was what you caught
in Sodom.

I had half expected a spate of "incidents" for the first few weeks while
lager louts kept drinking until 3am.
I remember having a hard time getting used to the long opening hours when I
moved to Germany. I was normally blotto after about 3 hours. Gradually I
learnt I didn't have to gulp it down - I could go for a relaxed meal and
still have time to drink afterwards. But it did take time. Maybe when the
weather gets better in the Summer and people attempted to stay out longer
we'll see if it makes a difference.

Somewhere in Helsinki it's "spiritus" on the Christmas faggots/yule
logs again this year.

No change where I live, but then I always was tucked up in bed by 10
anyway.
I noticed an "I'm a casualty department surgeon and we're doomed"
letter in the Metro the day after the law came in but he was bizarrely
complaining about "drunks rolling in after 11pm last night" so I think
he was tired and confused, poor chap.
