Default Any acceptance of Euro in Denmark

Although Denmark is not (as far as I know!) in the Eurozone,
is there any informal acceptance of it, e.g. in larger stores, and/or
in areas bordering Germany?

You can actually be arrested for trying to pass Euros in Denmark. Don't
even try it.

The small number of places that would accept Euros (or for that matter US$,
CAN$ etc.) generally do so at exorbitant exchange rates. As in most
countries, you're generally far better off getting a small amount of local
currency for small purchases and using credit cards for your major
purchases.

But isn't Danish Krona shadowing euro, so there is virtually exchange rate
between the two? If retailers are giving poor rate for euro, at least it's
consistent.

I'd like to hear from Danish residents. In spite of public hostility, Danish
government is keen to join the euro I understand.

I don't think so, somehow. If retailers want to accept euros (or any
other foreign currency) in Denmark, I'm sure they'll be allowed to do
so...

Yes ,of course it's legal. And they've near always accepted SEK, especially
so the shops in Elsinore caring for Swedish customers.
And b.t.w I paid with Euros for a meal at Kastrup airport recently, no
problems, fair rate but got Danish coins as change.

Many of the places you mention will except it - they will usually
have a sign saying "We accept euro..etc". But they will only accept
bills, not coins. And the exchange money will be in danish kroner.
But it is true that the kroner is closely tied to the euro. If the
euro goes up against other currencies, so does the kroner, and if it
goes down so does the krone.

Are the kroner and Euro tied together precisely? I've been watching
currencies on www.oanda.com and I could almost swear that there have been
divergences between how strong the Euro is and how strong the DKK is. (I've
been informally monitoring NOK, SEK, DKK, Euro, GBP, USD, and CAD.) How
about the other Scandinavian currencies and the Euro?

No, it is not a 100% tie, but they are only allowed to deviate "that

But I think the British Pound is floating freely against the euro.

The bank rate you get for changing your local currency to Krona will be much
better than the retailers rate. Of that you can be sure!

The Krona is in the Exchange Rate Mechanism. In which it is only allowed to
deviate from the Euro by a small amount before the government must step in
to stop the changes.

GBP is not in the ERM and so does float freely against all currencies.
