Does anyone have first-hand experiences of staying in private house
accommodation in Romania, organised through agencies such as ANTREC?
I'm hoping to stay near to the Apuseni mountains, using such
accommodation, in a months time, and I'm wondering what prices to
expect.
Any positive/negative experiences of this, and does anybody have any
particular recommendations for day hikes in the Apuseni mountains?
Also, what are your experiences of Cluj?

Loved it. Spent two nights there, could easily have spent two or three
more. Check out the outdoor, open-air market. It's a real experience.
There's lots to see and discover on your own just by walking around.
For centuries it was the most important city in Hungarian-controlled
Transylvania, so there's a real mix of Hungarian and Romanian cultures
there. Many guidebooks rave about Brasov and rate Cluj as a close
second, but I really didn't like Brasov. Cluj was much more interesting.
It's a university town and thus has a lot of young people around. There
was a festival on when I was there and there was a lot of "party atmosphere."
I stayed at the Hotel Piccola Italia (more of a suite in a
couple's provate home, actually), reasonably priced at about US$20 per
night, clean and comfortable, close to the city centre.
