Amsterdam hotel: double bed & far
I'd like to hear recommendations on Amsterdam hotels around
100 Euros, less if possible. I don't mind staying outside the city
center, as long as the hotel has a metro or train station nearby.
I still don't understand the Ibis hotels, with only three in the area,
two right in the city center. I thought Ibis hotels were often
located in the suburbs. I want a double bed, probably a 3 star
hotel, for the beginning of September.

Book soon there is a big conference early september. I booked a few weeks
ago and there was limited availability.
try www.amstelbotel.com for something a bit different - but the rooms are
small.
(I am going self catering - a lot cheaper than a hotel - but you have to
make your own breakfast and bed - big deal :-)

A friend of mine started her B&B in Haarlem this year. It is certainly
not down town Amsterdam but you can get there from there. It has a
bedroom with 2 beds, a TV room, kitchen, and shower. See details at
http://www.enjoy-europe.com/b&bpaula.htm.

Haarlem is extremely convenient to Amsterdam. But is this B&B convenient to
the Haarlem train station? The web site states two miles from the city
center. So no. Next to the Haarlem station is the Golden Tulip Hotel Lion
d'Or. See links here:

I stayed at the more reasonable Hotel Carillon, but it isn't next to the
train station. I had to walk.

Re: Amsterdam hotel: double bed & far
We stayed at the Golden Tulip in central Amsterdam. Location is
perfect, booked thru wotif.com. Parking is extra. However, be careful
to check that you book the central - Golden Tulip is a chain and there
is a much cheaper Amsterdam Golden Tulip in Zaandam, out in the outer
suburbs.
If you dont mind the suburbs, by far the best quality for the money we
found in western Europe were the Van der Valk hotels (3* and4* at 2*
prices at http://www.valk-hotels.nl), but I couldn't find any in
central Amsterdam
