"Talk too much" is a bit of an euphemism though. These are laws against
"hate speech." Not that I particularly dsupport these laws, but one can
probably bring up the "shouting fire" issue.

That's not what he said. Bush is decidedly enforcing them, with a bit of
a revenge, so he is factually correct.

The flu does not get young and healthy people in intensive care.

Johnny, you are in my kill filter in another group because
you spread lies, insult people, make irresponsible
accusations, and try endlessly to divide people. You have
the honor of becoming the first in the can in **this**
group. ***PLONK*** with extreme prejudice.

It does appear that these stories *are* true.

Flu kills more than three times as many people a year as AIDS in Britain, I
would imagine the stats are probably similar in most western countries.

If you stay in the countryside of France in gites, you will
spend far less than in Italian agriturismos. You can eat
very cheaply if you buy in bakeries and charcuteries, the
wine is great, and the French people are wonderful.

Why would you **not** want to go to France? Because you are
mad at Chirac? I know someone who didn't go to France for
years because he was mad at de Gaulle. What does Chirac or
de Gaulle have to do with the beauty of the country, the
people, the architecture, the wine or the food?

AFAIK there wasn't an embargo at that time, sofar you're right

No doubt officially approved and sanctioned by the French government,
Soviet Union, although with close contacts with Iraq, refused to sell nuclear
technology.
The affair with the nuclear station isn't much to be proud of and France
have been involved in quite a number of dirty or semidirty business on
government level.
Blowing up Pacifik islands with nuclear tests and Rainbow Warrior are some
things to be ashamed of.
But that said I can't find any reason to punish the average French
winefarmer or the lowpaid Parisian hotel cleaning woman.

Hardly, It's the responsibility of the government to provide protection
for free speech so that it is not tantamount to shouting fire.

Proud of not trying to control private behavior of consenting adults, like
religion or sexual preference? Sure.

Are the signs invisible ? Why not bother to learn some French if that
happens to be the second language in your country ? In Finland many people
have learnt both languages although Swedish is counting for about 10% (?)
only and in Switzerland you can expect most to speak French, German and
Italian isn't unlikely. I've travelled through Quebec and found no problem
communicating in English and they were as nice and polite as in rest of
Canada.

I had much discussions with Canadians while travelling "The Canadian"
Toronto-Vancouver and they told me yes we know that cars with Toronto signs
sometimes are damaged in Quebec but that's not preventing us from going.

I don't think you'll have to wait much longer. Fidel Castro is an old man,
and I can't imagine mustering up the self-defeating willpower to keep the
boycott going much after he gives up the ghost.

Take an economics class. Without foreign capital, resources and markets this
place would be a backwater.
