Canadians mostly invest in the US stock market, leaving the Americans
to buy Canadian stocks, penny shares or not.

AWOL Bush wants MORE restrictions

Restrictions apparently make us more free.

We mustn't let a good myth die, must we?

What weapons? Were they prohibited by any UN embargo? Was it something that
other nations were not doing to this, or any other, dictatorship?

Specifically, since this seems to be the popular theme: Did France sell any
nuclear power stations to Iraq since an embargo was applied by the UN? If
so, when? Was it ALL of France that did so, or was it a single company? Was
the contract organized by or sanctioned by the French government?

Let's have all the details, so that we can move from vague innuendo to
discussing verifiable facts.

I'll drink to that!!! Even hellholes are worthwhile, although I might draw
the line at central Columbia. Some parts of Africa are not too good either.
Nth Korea is probably out of the question, because I think you can only do
state organised tours, and they are expensive.

Hey, why not? It gives them something to do, and I have nothing to
hide. If they don't think it funny, good! I don't much appreciate
being singled out for a search every time I cross the border simply
because I come from Texas. I know that to be the case for I've asked
the guys searching before. They admitted that they usually search
vehicles only from the southern and southwestern US. Sorry, but that
sucks. If it wasn't for the scenery in some places and big Northern
pike in others, I would not cross the border. It damned sure isn't the
hospitality.

Lol :-) You do have a point - in the land of the Usenet & trolls, a
serious or sensible suggestion may not make it very far.

Those whom are sensible and knowledgable would know:

#1) Americans are not being attacked and being beaten in France;
#2) The risk of catching SARS by traveling to Toronto is extremely low;
#3) There is not an outbreak of SARS in Quebec;
#4) Americans are not being mugged and beaten in Montreal.

In reference to #2, Toronto is a large city with a large metropolitan area.
The # of cases in Toronto is extremely small compared to the overall
population and those who have it are quarantined. I'd be more concerned
about traveling to Hong Kong or certain areas of China in regards to SARS.

Regards,

Steve

P.S. I was in Spain a few weeks ago where an overwealming 96% of the
population is against the war and anti-war protests were commonplace. As an
American, I was welcome and did not encounter any problems. I did not have
the opportunity to travel into France on that trip, but I look forward to
visiting France on my next trip to Europe in late summer / early fall.

Well said - thanks for bringing a bit of sensibility to this thread. One
should also keep in mind of the mortality rate, many of those people were
already ill, had medical problems and/or compromised immune systems.
Influenza - the flu, has resulted in more fatalities than SARS has - but
thankfully there are immunizations for the flu.

I think we can thank the press for all of the SARS fears getting out of
hand. If it were not for the war, I'd be willing to bet SARS would be 24/7
news coverage and the fears would be much worse.

Regards,

Steve

Nonsense.

OK, sure there are restrictions on guns. Occasional restriction on
publication by courts to protect the rights of the accused. Most of this
is of little significance.

But otherwise, I would say rather the opposite. There are no laws against
sodomy in Canada, for instance. You don't have a powerful fundamentalist
coalition trying to make the laws their control tool.

Once again, replace 'Americans' with 'French', and vice versa.

You guys are indulging in a bit of wishful thinking, I would say. For
those of us over 50, with relatives in Toronto, and who had a trip to
China planned for this summer, it's a pretty major issue.

Even if only killing 4% and mostly older folks, SARS is pretty bad. In
China it is definitely out of control. Probably in Hong Kong too,
although they are getting pretty heavy handed.

Even closer to home, in Toronto, it's not all that good. We really need
to watch Toronto. I would say that at the current stage, they have not
managed to contain it there, but at least they are "managing" it.
Unsuccessful at making it go away, but so far avoiding what would be the
natural growth, which is exponential.

Anyway, if we don't get a vaccine out very quick, odds are SARS will kill
4% of the population of China. 40 million people. Surely that's not
insignificant? Plus there are already major economic consequences, with
much more to come, more airline bankruptcies for instance.

Or is it like the Iraq war, since it's in some hypothetical far away land,
this is just TV, made in Hollywood?

Could be. But the recent raise in the CAD won't help those Canadians who
always see the grass greener on the other side.
