Will the car radio work? What about the 12 volt power outlet? Will CDs
bought in Europe play on American car CD players? (You did invite
questions!).

This car is already in France with US license plates. It is not allowed to
be driven but by an American citizen. Considering the general situation of
car , being vandalized , burglarized and even burnt to the ground by
unsavory elements of the population, I was asking a simple opinion.
I was once attaqued in a Chevrolet van, 20 miles from Frejus, as I was
taking a nap in it at 4PM. so the concern is real.
I will probably replace the plates with French plates (Black with white
letters), and take my chance with the police controls.

The radio will work, though obviously preset stations won't exist. The CDs
will play. Electricity confuses me so I'm not going to answer that one. I
do know it won't leak out, though. ;)

Thousands of American service members drive all over Europe with special "US
Military" license plates. And yes, they get their car's vandalized and
burglarized and stolen, just like everyone else does.

AFAIK it is not legal to drive a car with only French (or any European)
license plates in the USA. The only cars with European plates I have seen in
the USA also have the normal State specific license plate(s). You are also
ignoring the fact that the average person in the USA wouldn't recognize a
French license plate if you smacked them in the face with it.

But this is a problem of the customs. If a french person is driving
the car it is "imported" and there must be paid a tax.
A german person might drive the car in France, but not in Germany,
because of the same problem.

And you think, these "elements of the population" are only waiting for
your car?

I cannot belive that it was because of the Chevrolet you was in.
Ay other car driver, in any other car taking a nap would had have the
same problem.

Sure it is. Call your state's DMV or DMV or whtever and ask.

They're not common, for obvious reasons, but I've seen them.

These days with the EU logo and country name on the plate it
isn't so hard.

My great granny warned my granny before she took her children (including
my dad) on their first jet plan trip in the 60s- something like "mind no
let them bairns stick thir heids oot o' the windaes noo!"
