Almeria airport is served by charter and low-cost flights from the UK. Charters go from Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester & Glasgow - Thomson, Airtours, First Choice, Thomas Cook & Avro - check out www.bargainholidays.com for details. www.cheap0.com will show you which low-costs serve Almeria. The area is hot and dry (driest area in mainland Europe). The two main tourist resorts are Roquetas de Mar to the west of Almeria city and Mojacar to the north-east. Roquetas is backed by a sea of greenhouses where hundreds of acres of vegetables are grown under plastic. It's a typical resort with various grades of hotels and apartments and a long course sand / fine-shingle beach. Mojacar is a pretty white village on top of a small hill. There is plenty of nearby accommodation along the coast, with an increasing number of new hotels. A hire car would enable you to explore loads of places in the area, including the Cabo de Gata natural park which has many unspoilt beaches. Garrucha, 4 miles up the coast from Mojacar, is a traditional Spanish fishing port with, not surprisingly, a selection of seafood restaurants. And about 7 miles up the coast from Mojacar, Vera Playa, is the capital of Spanish naturism with lots of apartments, a 4-star nude hotel and a long sandy bare beach, open to all.
