Hi folks,
This is driving me nuts. Basically I need a rough idea of costs of a train
from Swidnica or Wroclaw to Berlin....an estimate would be good, no website
seems to give the costs. Anyone got any idea?
Thanks,
Despondent Dave![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

well Hamburg to Lubeck single cost 9EUR so if you can check the distances
and extrapolte you may get a VERY VERY rough idea.

I'm afraid I can't find any prices for the Polish side.
2nd class, one person, one way.
Option 1a) Swidnica -> Zgorzelec Miasto : ??? (2hrs45mins - 3hrs30mins )
Option 1b) Wroclaw -> Zgorzelec Miasto : ??? (3, 6, 8, or 12 hours
depending on trains/route)
2) Görlitz -> Berlin Ost: Eur29,00 (about 3 hours) or Eur31,80 (4hrs20min)
depending on the train.

That was VERY helpful Tim, thankyou so much! One thing I don't follow: are
Gorlitz & Zgorzelec Miasto the towns on the borders?
Thanks a lot

Yes, There's the nearest I can find to the border on each side, and the
German rail website only gives prices up to the border... so that's why I
tried it like that. It's sometimes easier to get an accurate price out of
them. Görlitz is on the German side, obviously, and Zgorzelec a few km
inside the Polish border, as far as I can tell.

And now for the really dumb question (first time I have done this one....),
what happens in between? Ridiculous question I know, but not being able to
speak a word of Polish is making me a little paranoid![Wink](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Just do what everyone else does and show your passport to the same people
everyone else shows theirs to.

I should add that you may not have to change at these border places, and
you may be able to get a direct train anyway. I only split it up to find
the prices.

Don't panic, the trains DO go through those places, and I don't think you
need to change there, they may stop at the border for passport control -
you'll know when. It's not as if you ride to Zgorzelec then get out and
walk 5km to Görlitz.... I didn't mean to imply that, sorry.

Cost should be about 150-200 PLN, that is a 40-50 USD. It will depend on
type of train. Most expensive, but also most comfortable will be EuroCity
train. You may also find cheaper connections and save about 25 percent. Bus
will be even cheaper. Journey takes less than 6 hours.
Detailed information on connections you'll find (in English) on www.pkp.pl

How's your German ?
On my trips to Poland I've found that more Poles had German as a second
language than English.
