Default Advice on South/West England, Cornwall & More..

We are planning a trip to England.

We will spend 3 days in London and then rent a car to drive around England.
There are two adults and two kids (9 and 13).

Our first night will be at the Travelodge in Amesbury (near Salisbury and
Stonehenge).

From here, I would like to drive by Lands End (just to say we've been
there), and maybe St. Michael's Mount, Lizard Point, etc.

On the way out we would hug the northern coast, spend some 3-4 hours in King
Arthur's Castle (I assume it's a tourist trap, but who cares), then try to
make past Taunton, and visit Glastonbury, Wells, and Bath, then keep going
towards Stratford-upon-Avon, then Nothingham, York (visit the Viking
village, again I assume it's a bit of a tourist trap, but not terribly
concerned about it), and eventually reach Edinsburg.

I need recommendations for B&B and "must-see" sights (remember we have
kids).

I was thinking we would head out from Salisbury in the morning and stay near
landsend in a B&B.
- There is a Travelodge just outside Plymouth, but that is not west enough
(I think). I like the price (around 50gbp/night).
- I would like to keep the cost per night under $100 but will go slightly
higher for good locations, etc.

I would like to estimate how long the drive is from Salisbury to Lands End.
I'm figuring about 4 hours. So we do sightseeing the same day and next day
head straight to King Arthur's Castle, and drive back towards Bath, staying
in Taunton or close to Glastonbury.

Your input would be seriously appreciated.

Following up to David Hernandez

The only approach worth doing to Lands End is on foot along the south
coast from the car park at Porthcurno. You need Ordnance survey
landranger sheet 203 or just keep the sea on your left until the land
runs out :-) This will give you some excellent landscapes, otherwise
it will just be for the sake of it.
Another way of seeing Lands End is from the helicopter (Penzance) or
boat (Scilonian) to the Scilly Isles, note the boat ride is often not
for those who get sea sick.

On Lizard go to Kynance Cove (turn off right just before village, go
at low tide, give me a date, i'll tell you when high tide is), not
Lizard point, unless its important to say you have been to the most
southerly point. A good place to have your pasty is Annes pasty shop
in Lizard village. Second turning on left as you arrive, painted
yellow.

I think your correct, not that I have been.

Yorks OK, the railway museum is good if you like that sort of thing.

Edinburgh?

try Porthcurno

If you or the kids are at all interested in war(time) history and need
something to do on a rainy day, the Eden Camp museum is 30? mins drive out
of York. It's a former POW camp with about 20 huts of exhibits and displays.
It's very popular with school trips until about 2pm - which may not be a
recommendation for kids on holiday - but the exhibits aren't too 'dumbed
down'. I think they suggest allowing 3 hrs for a visit, but adding lunch
and/or tea would make it an afternoon's outing.
